Bit of a tale & may take a bit of hunting if its of interest

Recently I managed to fcuk my Palm Tungsten T, a new model is about to be released & I fancied it but wasnt sure if its backwards compatible with some of my other kit (& the price is still high).

A T5 is still @ £250 (£199 o/l) though this may drop rapidly soon with the new model.

The Tungsten E is about £130 but no bluetooth support.

A bit of digging\ringing around in Currys\Dixons\PC World can get you for £89 a Tapwave handheld (Running Palm OS5), 128Mb, 200Mhz, works in portrait\landscape modes, BT, twin card readers. Its also got vibration feedback for games playing.

This is a better spec machine than than the one it replaces & gives the T5 a good run for the money for 1/3rd of the cost.

All accessories\games (not sure if they will run on normal Palms) are about £2.67 - £2.99, these include

Duke Nukem
Doom II
Spyhunter
Tony Hawks (4)
Leather Case
Docking Cradle (using the supplied hot-synch cable).

I paid £89 for mine on Sunday at PC World, after ringing around the stores in my area (& a mad dash up to North Devon), all the software seems to be now £2.57 - £2.99.

Bought the case, the cradle, the better games etc.

Could do with some stylus`s, but still have old IIIC\Tungsten ones floating about so thats not really a issue.

I do need to get another cradle though (plentiful) & jury rig a power cable using a cigar lighter - USB adapter to provide power for it & GPS Smart Fortuna unit I have. The slightly curvy cradle (where the hotsynch cable clips in) seems like it could be fixed to a nice curvy car fascia. ;)

I did notice all the software is still full price in the US ($29), so its obviously going strong over there, I also found the 256Mb SD card with Wi-Fi for £45 from Amazon, so I will get one sent to my friends in Michigan for collection in August. I wont be ordering it just yet so if your interested in one just say.

If the T5 had WiFi built in that might have tipped the scales in its favor.

Well, bloody typical!

None of the stores near me have any left. I always lose out on these bargains :(

Went hunting for these around Brum. The stores seem to have 1 or 2, but none are complete. The stupid store managers won`t allow me to purchase from one store and pick up the missing bits from another, so basically they won`t sell any. Oh well PCWorld are doing their best to stop anyone buying one.

Maybe someone upstairs is telling me not to get one!

Happy hunting to those still looking.

Always looking for the BBd (Bigger Better Deal) !

THO has managed to pick up a second set of games & 2 docking cradles, but need to get another leather case for the Zodiac for the sons birthday present.

Anyone seen one in their travels (PC World price £2.97 or less)?

Will renumerate cost & P&P obviously. :)
