I saw a report that a UK version is to be released in September (I think), I keep looking around for it, but nobody has it listed. Apparently it will have a Carpenter Commentary track, but little else in terms of extras. There WAS a US version which is no longer available. Its an absolute cracker of a film that has WWF wrestler `Rowdy` Roddy Piper as the main lead.
I totally agree, it`s a little gem of a movie which I`m afraid hasn`t aged all that well (especially Carpenter`s music). Nevertheless, the film is a biting satire on society which at the time was completely wrapped up in self-gratification and elitist consumerism - this was the time of the yuppie. Oh yeah and it also features one of the best, funniest and longest fist-fights of all time as well as Rowdy Roddy Piper uttering the immortal line "I`ve come here to kick ass and chew bubble-gum.... and I`m all outta bubble-gum". Aaahhhh the 80`s.
Sadly, I haven`t heard anything about the dvd.
As far as I know, the R2 disc is out in September. I reviewed it recently and it hasn`t aged that well. The commentary track is quite good though with Carpenter and Roddy Piper. I used to be a big fan back in the early 90s so it was interesting to see it again.

I was looking for this one recently too, it being one of my favourite films. But I`m certainly not gonna pay the $130 that i saw it go for on ebay a few days ago.
This was so close to being a great film, spoiled when it turned into a run of the mill action movie. The fight seen between Roddy Piper and Keith David is smart though, totally over the top. This was one of the few films I bought on VHS.
