dvd_vicar (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 9th October 2002, 16:28

Play.com have The Ultimate Mummy Collection (4 Discs) (5.1/DTS) at £16.99, consisting of The Mummy (Ultimate Edition) and The Mummy Returns (Special Edition)

Has anyone any comments before I part with the money?

Thanks in advance
Nick

I got this some time ago. The second film is a bit crap but on the whole it`s a good buy. There`s a bonus disk for each film I think. £16.99 is good value.

£16.99 is a must but for this set. there are only 2 things that let this trilogy down. First, the CGI scorpion king is unfathomably bad, and the constant "Oh, I love you Rick, Oh, I miss my son so badly...." it get`s a bit annoying after a while, oh, and Izzy is a tad irritating, but other than that, go for it?

If you have a DTS set get them.

The score on both is excellent. Mummy 1 is better than 2 but still both entertaining.

Essential DTS viewing recommended.

Both movies are very entertaining. Sure its cheesy, cliche and everything but at the end of the day, its pure entertainment. You can just sit back and relax and enjoy the movies. £16.99 for 4 great discs is a bargain.
Just for your information, I think the region 2 version is cut a little bit. Got the uncut region 4 release myself.
I have all the 4 discs but i got them all seperate. Got the mummy 2 discs ages ago and got mummy returns 2 disc last october. Its a pity the 4 disc set wasnt out then as the packaging looks ace.
My mummy dvds are one of my dvds that are the most watched. Fun for all the family.

R2 does have a cut on "The Mummy Returns", but "The Mummy" is completely uncut. In the second film R2 owners do not get to see the headbutt that Rachel Weisz gives to Patricia Velasquez as this is an imitable act and so had to go according to the BBFC to get a 12 certificate.

In the box set are both widescreen anamorphic? "The Mummy" sold separately is widescreen, but not anamporphic.
