The Ultimate Toy Box – leaves big kid very upset on Christmas Day

wingnut (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 26th December 2000, 09:19

Father Christmas bought me Reg 2 Toy Story The Ultimate Toy Box for Christmas. The first 2 disks worked fine but Disk 3 is definitely not working. Just gets stuck trying to play, the only you can get the idsk out is to switch the machine off.

The player I have is a Wharfdale 750s which Father Christmas also bought me.

I'll try exchanging it but I have a horrible feeling this is a software problem.

Any help appreciated.

P.S. It plays on iMac DV though?

Wingnut, is DVD Reviewer your only DVD bookmark? As much as I`m a regular (daily) reader of this site, I do check other DVD news sites as well and they`ve been full of people complaining about compatibility problems between the Wharfie 750, the Proline, the Grundig GDV210 and a shedload of other machines that refuse to play TS3 because the indexing overheads are too much for most machines to handle. I`m surprised you haven`t heard. Don`t bother taking it back. All the disks are the same, and Di$ney, whose fault it is anyway, are refusing to take the blame.

As far as I am aware ... the Region 1 version works perfectly on ALL players !!!

And these Hollywood companies, like Disney, expect people to stop buying R1 DVD`s and instead buy FAULTY R2 ones !!!

Thanks, Adam. I`m sending my Fantasia set back to Play 247 and getting the R1 set instead. Knew I should have done that in the first place.

I have lodged a complaint at "Watchdog", along with plenty of other people, I suspect, but I also asked them to ask Disney why we should not be able to buy region 1 when region 2 customers just get the p**s taken out of them. Be interesting to see if the "Divine" (not) Ms. Robinson can be bothered with this one.

I may be wrong, but I believe the R1 version works on all machines for the simple fact that it`s been authored better (or more simply) than the R2 disk.

The two disks are, I believe, identical having the same number of titles (99) on them. The R1 disk, however, only carries English soundtracks and subtitles whereas (to save money) Di$ney issued the R2 version with a number of European subtitles and language tracks. The additional branching required to keep track of these options exceeded the memory capacity of a large number of machines.

So, same as Gladiator, then. Except Universal admitted the error, eventually. Bet Disney don`t.

Moral of this story. Buy Region 1.
