X Files Box sets.... PLEASE HELP!!!

hopethishelps (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 3rd September 2003, 10:14

Hi,
I started to buy the X Files box sets a few years ago on DVD currently have Box sets 1, 2, 3.. and the X files - movie (1998) For the past 3 years i have been travelling around the world, and have been out of touch with what is going on... I would like to start buying the rest of the boxsets.
but have noticed there seems rather a lot of choices, other than box sets.

the aim is to own every episode on DVD, not too fussed about the region, but would be nice to own the box sets with all the extra.s.
main problem is when i search for `X files` i get so many choices like

X-files:deadalive
X-files Existence
X-files- The truth
X-files Nothing happened today.. and loads more.

Can someone please tell me are these `1 off` episodes or will they be included in the relevant complete series ..
if i remember, when they first started to release X files there were editions like `tooms`
all this was, was 1-2 episode from the series with a few extra features. It was included on the series box set when that was released...

i know this is a long question to answer so if any 1 has any links just post them instead.
and i.ll do the reading...
Thanks in advance....

Don`t worry, the X Files boxsets are being released at the rate of two a year.

We`re currently up to Season 6, and Season 7 is due out anytime now.

The titles you mentioned above are movies cobbled together from two episodes from the later seasons.

The Truth for instance is the last ever episode. You can buy them now if you like to jump ahead. They do have extra features, that may not come on the boxsets, and on occasion even have DD 5.1 sound (The boxsets thus far have been DD 2.0 Surround) But rest assured, that the episodes will eventually appear in some form on the boxsets.

That link will show you the reviews on this site and you can do a compare and contrast... :)

I can recommend www.dvdcrave.com in Australia. On their homepage there is a link leading you to X-Files Seasons 1 to 6 (maybe 7) which are all on offer at about £26 per set from September 24 - I think you`ll agree that`s a bit more affordable than the usual 50, 60 70 or 80 quid normally being touted.

I`ve ordered X-Files from them before and you should be fine as far as customs goes - they normally mark the parcels as "gift".

BTW - the sets are dual R2/R4

The individually released X Files such as Deadalive go back to the early days when the show was released on video for the first time and, as with Stargate SG1, as they were not sure how it would sell they limited the releases to some of the best. This tends to be the main alien conspiracy storyline theme rather than the standalone episodes with the exception of Tooms. I have all of these on video but I have not seen them available as individual DVD`s so I presume they are only available as part of the full box sets. This is a horrible approach in my view (also used by Star Trek) where you have to buy an entire season if you want it on DVD. The Stargate people have made a better marketing job of it altogether.
