Morons programming the layer skip
Watching Pirates of the Carribean, and one of the funnier gags is completely ruined by the punchline happening right on the layer crossover.
It`s happened before on some of my other dvd`s. Some happen in a fairly innocuous place, others right in the middle of a speech. Do the encoders nor review their work afterwards?
RE: Morons programming the layer skip
They sure didn`t on "Two Towers". What a mess. To add insult to injury the change over to disc two is in the middle of a scene. Do they actually watch the films, or just time them?!
RE: Morons programming the layer skip
Well get VHS next time.

It really annoys me too. (Not enough to go back to VHS, though, floyd - you facetious get ;) )
What bugs me is that with most films, there`s no need for a layer change at all. Given a decent modern MPEG-2 encoder, it`s possible to fit a two-hour movie onto a single layer with no real compromise in quality. Keep the second layer for extras, I say.

RE: Morons programming the layer skip
I have the R1 TT and the disc changeover is definitely not in the middle of a scene. It occurs after Faramir has captured Frodo and Sam and gives a little speach about one of the people they have just killed and what is happening in Middle Earth. The second disc begins with Gimli talking about Dwarf Women to Eowyn. Additionally I think the layer changes are nicely placed where they do not interrupt any dialogue. I gather the R2 is different from a previous posting.

I watched Pirates R2 last night. I thought the layer change was in one of the bits where they are rowing ashore. Perhaps you`ve got a dodgy disk. I played it on my Acoustic Solutions DVD551.
