Marked my new Friends DVD`s with a CD-R pen and now it`s screwed! Why? What do I do?

Hi,

I received the complete Friends DVD`s for Christmas, my other half bought some CD--R marker pens to put the series/episode info (only in very small letters) on the discs (they`re double sided without any major labels) and now 1 episode per disc basically won`t play - jumps, pauses, goes totally grainy and messed up. Could the titles be the reason for that?

If so, is there anything I can do?

Many thanks for any advice you can give.

If you wrote on the silver surface of the disc, then I`d say YES. Get a bottle of meths and a cotton wool bud and wipe the writing off with the meths, then rinse with cold tap water. Dab dry with kitchen towels and finally buff the discs with a soft cloth.

Although it is likely that the pens caused the damage, I must admit that the majority of my Friends discs have playback issues - jittery, freezing up, pixellation etc. It may be the Xbox that I normally play them on, but I think I may have had similar problems on my proper DVD player as well.

I think that`s going to work a treat, thank you. I`ve just tried it on a cd (writing on them so they start jumping, and then wiping it off using Vodka!). It no longer jumps, so I think it should work fine with the Friends DVD. Many thanks again. David Law

As a last resort, I found that using a permanent marker is one of the best ways to clean pen from a hard or shiny surface. Just rub a bit on then quickly wipe off before it dries and all of the dried on marker previously applied comes off as well.

Works the same with tip-ex as well, if there is tip-ex on a wooden surface, some more tip-ex seems to work a treat.
