What`s your most treasured BOX-SET?

Stuart McLean (Reviewer) posted this on Friday, 25th June 2004, 12:32

It`s a tough one...packagings part of it, obviously love of the content is important...extra features etc can help. What is it that makes some box-sets a thing of joy?

My particular favourite is my pink-boxed STINGRAY collection. Not only is the bright pink box with Marina and Troy emblazoned on it a thing of joy, every volume`s a winner with really great transfers, loadsa episodes and really great extra features including stuff like Lyons Maid ice cream ads from the days it aired. FAB!!!

What`s your personal fave? ;)

Either the Laurel and Hardy Box or the R1 Monster Legacy. HIghly prized because they almost bankrupted me. :/

UPDATE: Thought I`d add my reasons:

The Laurel and Hardy Box Set includes EVERY surviving short subject the Boys made between 1927 (when the partnership started) and 1941 (when they left MGM/Hal Roach for Fox). There are a few feature omissions (mostly stuff that`s out of character/ in costume and/or in the public domain). All the silents and shorts are included and that`s the stuff I love - the Boys trashing Fin`s house in an argument over Christmas trees; "Hard Boiled Eggs And Nuts! Unh!!"; the Boys as escaped convicts trying to change trousers at the top of an unfinished skyscraper and Stan has a live crab in his. Hours of sheer magic.

The Monster Legacy includes all of the Frankenstein story, from the 1931 original to the concluding House of Frankenstein, and includes a hefty dose of the Draculas and Wolf Men (and Women). Fourteen movies and three incredible quality Monster sculptures. Wow.

Hate to be predictable, but it`s probably Indiana Jones R1 Boxset, or Back To The Future ;)

Although I think come September there will be a new Daddy in town 8)

Without a doubt my Region 1 Alien Quadrilogy!

If only the forthcoming Star Wars set was as comprehensive as this monster!

Mine is the `Last Ninja 2` box set on the Amstrad. It came with a ninja book, ninja mask and a solid rubber death star.

Mine would have been the limited edition Alien Head Japanese Quadrilogy Set, but as it isnt, then I will have to say that my most favourite is either my R1 Alien Set, or my R2 Star Trek Movies 1-9 (with a space for Nemesis) set.

Better to die fighting for freedom than to be a prisoner all the days of your life

My Region 1 Nightmare on Elm Street box set, mainly because you can`t get all films in one box on Region 2, also it has a really cool bonus disc.

Either the R1 Nightmare on Elm Street Collection, or the R1 Indiana Jones set. I also like Alien Quadrilogy, but come September there will be only one...
