Desert Island DVD`s ...

Stuart McLean (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 10th August 2004, 12:19

AAaah! As I`m about to embark on the yearly sojourn to hotter climes (on me `ols) I found myself pondering this old chestnut...If you were deserted on a Desert Island, with nothing but a Home Movie System and 10 DVD`s (or Box Sets) to last you a lifetime - what ones would you pick? (Careful now - these shouldn`t just be your top ten, but rather a nice mix of moods, genres and approaches...)

To get things started (and I`m sure this has all been done before but...) here are my choices...I`ll probably spend my hols changing my mind as I remember lost gems... :/

1) The Complete Thunderbirds Collection - sheer quantity and these are the ultimate in `comfort` viewing for me...
2)LOTR - The Trilogy (obvious choice perhaps ...)
3) The Rebel - Hancock`s finest movie outing. About time this had the `Special Edition` treatment!
4) School for Scoundrels / The Green Man - 2 classics on one disc (spotted recently in HMV for a mere £5.99. How can anyone be without these hilarious movies?!)
5)The Prisoner Collection - just can`t watch these enough times...
6) Jackie Brown - love it more with every viewing, and the soundtrack is brilliant!
7) The Old Grey Whistle Test Volume 1 - that`ll fix the musical side of things
8) A Touch of Evil - what a movie, what a bongo crazy score. Fab!
9) Eraserhead - tough (Lynch) choice but first love is always hard to beat...
10) The Female Vampire - well, this straddles 2 camps (with the emphasis on straddle and camp), Horror and a bit of spicy sauciness too to while away the lonely hours...
That`s me set! What`re your choices? ;)

This is hard....only ten! Well here goes -

The Searchers - Because I`d have to have a John Wayne film and a western so I may as well kill two birds with one DVD and go for the best of both.

Pulp Fiction - Got to have something by Mr T :D

Bond Box Set - If I`m on the island long enough I may even learn to appreciate Moonraker. :D

Twilight Zone The Gold Collection - All the episodes on 49 discs should keep me going for a while. "Time Enough at Last" staring Burgess Meredith would be particularly poignant. :(

Planet of the Apes Box Set - After watching it I could take a walk along the beach and see if I can find the Statue of Liberty.

Ring - The original. Could there be anywhere better to watch this than all alone on an island.

Bubba Ho-Tep - Because being on an island without Bruce is more than I could bear.

Jaws - To put me off trying to swim to safety.

Melissa Etheridge - Live and Alone - Because it`s the best live concert DVD I`ve ever seen

Virtual Sex with Tera Patrick - :o Look I`m on the island alone.....no women. OK? ;)

Noticed a lot of people put LOTR Trilogy in there list but as the only box set contains the theatrical cuts I decided not to bother.
