CTHD R1 will be RCE, apparently...

Due for release on 5th June (18th June on R2), Play 247 have stated that the R1 version will be another release blighted by Region Code Enhancement, the nasty encryption that prevents some modified and `already multiregion outta the box` players from playback.

Anyone know any different ?

Since there`s only 2 weeks difference, who cares! And it`s more expensive on R1!

I`d have been gobsmacked if it wasn`t an RCE disk frankly. Columbia Tristar are apparently rather annoyed so many people bought the R3 version rather than wait for their own region disk, so a beefed up version of RCE could be on the cards.

Region coding won`t die out until more governments (like the Australians) recognise it as a restrictive trade practice and ban it.

Yeah I got the R3 release with english tracks, but quite frankly in a global economy Columbia were very naive to think that no one would import it!

Anything now released by Columbia will more than likely be RCE, ie Charlies Angels, Hollow Man etc. I believe that the limitations in DVD technology might mean that there will never be an ultimate RCE system mind.

Columbia are owned by SONY(!) pictures hence all this rather annoying RCE lets adhere to standards position they take

RCE is pretty much as bad as territorial protection will ever get on DVDs.

They might be able to beef it up a bit, by closing some of the loopholes like "chapter select" workarounds, but they`ll *never* be able to create a system which locks out manual select players. It just isn`t possible.
