8mm - the worst film ever???

Moo.. (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 25th April 2001, 14:37

has anyone else seen this film? i was recommended this by a friend who said it was great. after watching it i was frankly appalled. how a reputable actor such as nicholas cage can associate himself with this is beyond me. the film was craply made, the material was sick and inappropriate and how it got got by the bbfc ill never know. i feel very strongly about this and to think that the texas chainsaw massacre and the exorcist were banned for all them years...........

it`s a good film

just cos u don`t like the subject matter don`t slate the film, just turn it off.

s*** man if i reviewed the Powerrangers movie i`d say similar, but i wouldn`t cos i know i won`t like it.
if you feel strongly about that go watch "happiness" - that`ll challenge your sensibilities if yer that sensitive!

I thought that it was a good film, `the material was sick and inappropraite` (?) - what did you expect from a film whose main theme was the `snuff` movie industry? It was a damn sight better than the usual s***e that Schumacher churns out (barring Falling Down).

True the material was sick but dont diss the film cos it was very great and tense. Horrifying at times, this was a realistic look into the xxx industry and the unhuman nature of humans

I`m with Elephant on this one. Now and again, you get a really visceral reaction to a movie, and 8mm is the sort of movie I avoid like the plague. If you like that sort of thing, watch it by all means, but don`t defend it. Hollywood churns out a little too much of this kind of exploitative material for my liking, and the more you see of this sort of thing the more desensitised to violence and horror you become.

Let`s not kid ourselves. Movies like 8mm aren`t made as serious documentary exposes of the underbelly of society, they`re there for the same reason as tv shows like "when brain operations go bad" or the Colloseum in Rome - people get their rocks off watching people (usually women) suffer.

I have nothing against a well-crafted horror film, or violence when it is handled correctly within the context of the film. I just don`t subscribe to any movies that glorify victimisation. I think the world`s a nasty enough place without being confronted by its horrors in the comfort of our living rooms.

You could bury your head in the sand and ignore the what goes on in the real world but it would still happen. It`s a good film about very unpleasant subject matter. I don`t think after seeing the trailer or reading about the movie you wouldn`t be aware of the content, so maybe you should not have watched it in the first place.

yeah mate it`s sicka nd disgusting and we shouldn`t have to hear about it - that and thrid world stravation adn AIDS crises and the slave trade and a billion and one other things which are distasteful but are REAL are HERE and are an issue.

beyond that it`s good entertainment, i mean do you object to Alien? that`s pretty horrible stuff. Or Tom and Jerry? lots of violence in that.
