the picture quality is BIZZARE - every other line is f**ked up somehow - not quite sure what`s up with it. looks like a single layer disc too
but it`s bad enough i`m about to email anchor and ask them what`s up with it.
so could someone clear up for me - the normal director`s cut disc has the 15mins extra but a different ending? or what?

from what i hear the UK version IS the director`s cut. but in the states they only passed that as a NC-17, the kiss of death, so they cut a R version too

i`m starting to really love R4. I dunno what their DVD User Forum thing is but the discs that have their logo on are always fantastic - i figure they agreed some sort of quality standard and boy is it worthwhile. decent boxes, great discs and always very user-orientated
i want one :)
and yeah the DTS track did make a helluva difference - the DD one was OK but everything sounded a little false.

I`d have to go for the THX test signal too - but on a specific disc - the DTS version at the start of the T2 Ultimate Edition
if you`ve never heard that version you`ve not really heard the THX test signal, i mean it`s been nice before but that`s the only version that makes everyone go "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
another great one is the Monsters Inc, preview on the Toy Story discs - the surround channel use for the dog growl has made many a mate jump out of his skin

yeah i know just what you mean :) it`s normally the chompers that make me jump, that and the mine that bounces off the ship...
explosions are a fairly poor comparsion point for lots of reasons - other great examples are the American Beauty awards edition, even tho i think that`s only half-bitrate DTS the music is very clearly sweeter to an untrained ear and no explosions!
and yeah sure the magazines saying what to listen for does help people identify the differences but if you listen eyes-shut it`s all laid wide open for you anyway. without the visual cues for what`s going on the ears have all your attention and the small details that DD presumes you won`t notice are all too obvious

I dunno if all the people who wrote this have poor amps/speakers or what...
but there is no DTS 7.1, there is s 6.1 version tho
and the difference is audible from the first note of music on a decent system - it`s kinda like the difference between MP3 and original CD, some people it doesn`t bother at all but to some it`s night/day.
as to DTS being about subtley and DD being about power... MATE... come over here and listen to anything in DTS on my system and say that again... it has a dynamic range something like 3 times as large - that means the difference between the quietest noise and loudest possible noise is 3 times larger so when the mines start exploding in Galaxy Quest it`s proper fear-for-your-life stuff rather than just booms!
BUT as i say as with MP3/Cds some people just aren`t bothered, if that you then why spend the extra dosh *shrug*

Aye but the real bitch is that Red Sonja has great charm... as far as fantasy films of my youth goes that`s right up there. BUT no way i want Red Heat or Raw Deal... and the only way to get Red Sonja is with the others... bitches.

speaking about it with my partner we came to a strange agreement - the first time you know how the film is going to go is very early - the first title`s decay says it all. mmm. so nicely done
Only things missing are DTS and a soundtrack only track - music`s fabulous :)

i`m still shaking fractionally from getting the DVD the other day and watching it again - even my slasher-movies-and-romcoms-only bf liked it and was moved :)
l liked a fair few of the cut scenes too - there was stuff that shoulda stayed in. the interview with Hubert Selby Jr is hilarious, unintentionally.
did you guys like Dancer in the Dark too? that pulls off a smiliar emotional-rack act....

all it means is that this version was never submitted to the MPAA
in answer to your question the uncut version only gains character building stuff, but it is good stuff, UK version has no gore/blood cut out

this can just be a video "thing" that you have to live with
the higher the intensity along any particular line the longer that line of video becomes (the greater divergence) - hence if you look at a screen where the top half is dark and the bottom bright then the bottom half should spread slightly wider than the top
and vice versa
it just happens, but is usually pretty slight - if it gets annoying or ALWAYS leans one way then i`d complain :0

just deal with it and get it replaced, it`s not a rights issue. who needs to make anything legal out of it?
if you explain to them what happened they`ll tell you what they can do - probably get you to send it back and then they`ll refund postage and send you the right one.

it`s similar - it`s jsut because of the film stock tho, the compressions jsut fine - no strange shadow effects past film grain.
and the menus are rather pretty :)
bit of a haul though trying to get through more than one disc a day!
