Meet the Fockers - pish

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 15th February 2005, 10:18

Watched it on DVD last night.
What a terribly unfunny film.
Genuinely nothing funny in it,in my book.
Intensely annoying characters over-acted by both Streisand and Hofmann (sp).
Especially Hofmann,actually. :/
Don`t waste your time or your money on this pish.
It`s sad that a film with a budget of tens of millions of dollars only comes close to being even mildly amusing using a `dog humping a leg` joke.... :/ >:(

I`m now away to castigate the eejit that recommended it to me.

or castrate?

If we don`t take care of the customer, maybe they will stop bugging us.

Well, I thought "Meet the Fockers" was absolutely hilarious from start to finish, easily as good as the original "Meet the Parents". Yes, it`s over-acted and over-the-top, but that`s kind of the point.

I certainly wouldn`t recommend it to anyone who likes subtle, sophisticated humour - and I`d expect to be castigated (or indeed castrated) if I did. ;)

Also, this film deserves to be watched at the cinema in the company of like-minded friends. I don`t think I`d have enjoyed it anywhere near as much if I was watching it at home on some dodgy "cam job" pirate DVD. :p

Firstly - Can you give me an example of any "hilarious" bits please ?
Secondly - I like all sorts of comedy, from slapstick to subtle,if it`s funny.
Thirdly - I wouldn`t watch a dodgy "cam job" pirate DVD,thanks very much.

I`m with bowfer.
Saw it in America over Xmas, in a cinema packed with stereotypical small-town, popcorn stuffing lardarses.
They loved it.
They would.
Not that I`m saying that anyone who likes it is wrong, just that being surrounded by people who thought it was hilarious didn`t make it any funnier for me.

Midnight Cowboy...

but, he does chew the scenery in meet the fockers.. having said that, I can think of one very funny scene, "the wall of gaylord" - when i saw that i could just imagine how awful and embarrassing it would be, and yes that made me laugh.. most of it was comedy by numbers, but it did have some good scenes,

How about:

SPOILER:
Robert de Niro wearing a false "boobie", the "Wall of Gaylord", the sex therapy thing with the old duffers, Gaylord desperately trying to hide his mother`s books and phallic artifacts, Gaylord looking after the baby and things going pear-shaped, the reveal of Gaylord`s alleged son...

There are times when it gets a bit too much

SPOILER:
(like the whole circumcision story at the dinner table, culminating in the foreskin falling into the fondue!)

but all in all, I think "hilarious from start to finish" is about right.

Fair enough. My idea of "funny" is obviously different to yours - no harm in that. :)

Can you name a few films you found funny?
