The Godfather and other gangster films.
I`m ashamed to andmit that at the age of 23 i have just watched The Godfather for the very first time (well on Saturday anyway). My god what a film, i wa absolutly engrossed for the for the whole duration. I`m also ashamed to admit that i didnt realise Michael Corleone was Al Pacino unitlt he credits rolled.
I havent seen the sequels yet as only bought part one coz it was on special so i`m loaning them from a friend next week.
I`m now on a Gangster/Mafia kick and have since watched Scarface (also for the first time) and Goodfellas and thought both were fantastic. Ive got Millers Crossing and Donnie Brasco on the way aswell.
Are there any other Gangster films that i should see? I quite like stuff like Last Man Standing aswell.

They are all good films. you should see King of New York as well. Christopher Walken in an Abel Ferrara film, and it`s very good indeed
RE: The Godfather and other gangster films.
Mean Streets - arguably Scorsese`s first mainstream movie and an early sign of De Niro`s genius.
Infernal Affairs - a superb Asian gangster movie; you can pick up the trilogy fairly cheaply on R3
Casino - not necessarily a gangster film as such but it is centred around a Casino and organised crime; one of Scorsese`s top five best films.
Carlito`s Way - Sean Penn and Al Pacino are both excellent in this De Palma movie.
City of God - it has been described as `a Brazilian Goodfellas` and with good reason; it is a superb movie.

Suprised no one has mentioned Once Upon A Time In America. :D
Though I don`t actually like the film personally, just Morricones score. :B
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?
RE: The Godfather and other gangster films.
Al Pacino... Dog day Afternoon (possibly not a true Gangster Flick).
Bugsy Malone... a personal favourite!

Once Upon A Time In America How the hell did I forget that? :o Better than The Godfather IMO although probably not as `user friendly`.

Definitely agree about the `not as user friendly`. :p

User friendly, i`m confused.
City of God was amazingly good forgot all about that one. I sat down the other day to watch Mean Streets and switched it off about 10 minutes as i just couldnt be bothered. Of course a mix of the missus nagging and 3Oclock in the morning would explain that. I might put it back on tonight.

Miller`s Crossing... best mob movie ever made.

mean streets is worth a watch if only for the quality "steadicam scene"
some good uk films are Get Carter and the long good friday -
rififi is a good french heist movie - if you get into heists after that you should watch the taking of pelham 123 as that is rather good as well..
