Underrated Films

I know there has been thread, but can`t be bothered to find it.
Lord Jim (Peter O`Toole)
Psycho (remake. I know it is sacrilege, but this was a homage and works well as such)
Deep Blue Sea (Force 10 shocks and nice CGI, for once)
Shaka Zulu (great TV series now on DVD)
Helen of Troy (another TV series on DVD)

The Majestic - Was pretty much panned on release (and flopped at the cinema) but I really like it.

Can`t think of anymore at present :/

Millenium - A intelligent time travel movie (for once), screenplay based on the authors own book & short story, which kept most of the plot elements intact (thought the book ending was better).

I understand why it was panned by the critics as the later half of the film retreads some of the films events from earlier in the scene.

As usual, I had to spend about 30 mins afterwards explaining Blinovitch to THO.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Psycho (remake)
You`ve got to be kidding - why do a shot-by-shot remake of an absolute classic and then suck the life out of it?

Can`t think of many but Nikita has always struck me as underrated - without it Leon would never have been made.

Don`t agree with the Psycho remake (masturbation scene anyone?) but agree with chewie about The Majestic. Watched it in the middle of the day on Sky Movies one day and thought it was great.

Can`t think of any myself off hand, but my mind is at work. :D

Staying with the "Psycho" remake as underrated except for the stupid masturbation scene as mentioned. As a homage, and blatantly so,was quite good.
Oh, I forgot:
Chaplin (excellent performance)
The Serpent and the Rainbow (Wes Craven)
Legend (Jerry Goldsmith version)
Enemy Mine

Did you see it last night? Really enjoyed it. Ending was very sad as he took to the stage at the Oscars. :(

The Serpent and the Rainbow (Wes Craven)

The girlfriend has mentioned that film to me many times but I`ve not got around to seeing it yet. Sounds good.

Going to watch "Chaplin" on vid (VHS, spit) tonight. Looking forward to it. A great performance by Robert Downey jnr.
"The Serpent and the Rainbow" is, I think, Craven`s more personal film, based on fact. Weird, horrific and beautiful.
I am still smarting from your film blow (see other thread, folks). you must be just completely gutted. I would have sat in disbelief, then cried, then smashed something (something inanimate and cheap!). Ugh.

PS. I went to LIFS, by the way.
