irreversible - possible slight spoiler

Morning all, hope well.
I watched this (points above) last night and was blown away. Such a shockingly powerful and well made film.
But, and I know that this may not me `important` but did they get the wrong guy in the end/ beginning/you know what I mean?

Yep, got the wrong bloke. Made it all the more gut wrenching.

I think it`s a really important film, although really, really hard to watch. But the beauty at the end makes the first 45 minutes of horror worth it.

...and if I remember rightly, isn`t the actual guy who did it looking on and grinning as Albert Dupontel takes the fire extinguisher to that other guy? Just to rub in the horror of it that extra bit..

It always struck me that the guy who met that sticky end was killed mainly because of what he was doing/about to do to Vincent Cassel; whether he`d attacked Bellucci or not was almost by-the-by at that point, if you see what I mean (although of course that`s why they were in the club, and why Cassel picked a fight with that guy.)

This is one film that I cannot make my mind up whether I want to see, or not. Half of me is eager to see this because of the critical acclaim it`s received, but the other half of me is not too keen to see it due to the 10 mins (?) rape scene.

I`m a horror fan, and by no means a prude, but I`ve heard it`s a bit heavy going in places.

It`s uncomfortable to watch in more ways than one - I almost turned off after 15 mins due to nausea caused by the (literally) dizzying camerawork. But I agree with Jonpy - for all the hideousness in the first half, it`s quite beautiful by the end.

Yep, agree with that - I was totally disorientated by the first 20mins or so, and its a brutal film, no mistake. The rape scene is probably the most difficult thing I`ve ever sat through in a film. Its not an enjoyable film but it is a brilliant piece of filmmaking and the ending is quite beautiful (although at the same time it makes whats gone before / to come even more disturbing). Highly recommended but you need a strong constitution.

I think that if you like films then this should be essential viewing. totally uncompromising,
the ending is beautiful, and unless you see it all the way through to that, you shouldn`t watch any of the film.

this is from the IMDB - if you thought the first half an hour or so made you feel sick, theres a very good reason...

"The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible), similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans, it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this reaction."

since the ending is the beginning and vice versa the last part of the film has to be seen in the context that this young woman will end up being brutally raped and beaten in a subway. Strangely enough I don`t see this beautiful ending as balancing out the beginning as its a case of so much beauty ends up trashed in the gutter

the beginning/ending puts the rest into context don`t you think? without that the whole thing, ie violence, could be seen as "a bit too much" as the person who lent it to me suggested..

there will be monica belucci fans out there who use scene selection to skip the first few chapters so they are watching a relationship grow and then die in reverse without the disturbing bit where their idol gets re modelled into a mess. Which would effectively trash the story for the sake of a few wet dreams :/ . You can actually buy the photo of monica at the entrance to the subway which looks fairly sexy if you don`t consider that the figures in the background are a pimp beating up a hooker and that Monicas about to get it too (thereagain moviemarkets also sell pretty baby stills which look dubiously paedophilic to me)
