Page 1 of DVD Region X

Hey there,I`m having trouble with my DVD Region X for my PS2.It plays the only R1 movie I have in b&w.My TV is NTSC compatible cos I have NTSC vids which play fine.Please help.

Youre video player probally converts ntsc to pal60 which is why the picture is in colour but the ps2 outputs ntsc as ntsc so they come out in black and white

William is right, but I think the DVD Region X solves the RGB/Component issue with DVD playback on the PS2 - so if you get a Playstation RGB SCART lead you should be able to play R1 stuff in colour on your existing TV. (Assuming your TV has a RGB SCART input, of course.)

Are you using a Scart lead...

If so..sony has disabled RGB playback in the PS2 when in DVD mode, for reasons they stated of security since they expected everyone to start copying their DVDs to tape, when the majority of us just wanted the better quality of picture output that RGB provides compared to a basic RF lead, without getting the `green screen` effect over the top that was put on deliberately...

That`s what I meant Rupert - the "green screen" effect is caused by Component video being output over the RGB lines. The DVD Region X device is supposed to solve this problem (as well as providing a multi-region facility of course), and allow you to watch DVDs in perfect RGB quality on your PS2.

It`s not really Sony`s fault, their hand was forced by an obscure licensing issue which prevents a RGB connection being fitted to DVD players unless it is in the form of a SCART socket. The PS2 doesn`t have a SCART socket (it has Sony`s own proprietary connector), so it technically isn`t "allowed" to play DVDs through RGB. Daft really, but there you go! (This is also the reason why portable DVD players don`t have RGB outputs, by the way.)

Well BORIS! I have a PROPER DVD player as well but this way it only costs £17.99 to upgrade to R1.I thank you.
