Kubrick Collection

What a gyp.

Bought the R2 boxed set and was mightily looking forward to the extras on Dr Strangelove, particularly the documentary on his early work (lets face it, these are the only real features in the set so something to look forward to!). I`d read several reviews in DVD mags and all mentioned they were present.

Nope, it`s the bog standard version thats been available in R2 for ages now. Totally unfair. Do any of these DVD mags actually bother to use the R2 discs in their reviews or stick with the R1s and call it an exclusive, reviewed way in advance? Noticed it with DVD Monthly`s review of T2, which must have left them with red faces when it was revealed it wouldn`t be the same as R1 after all.

Many mags do reviews based on press releases, also some studios supply the R1 version (Universal did this with the Hitchcock collection)

I had the same problem with this collection. I have queried with MVC where I bought it - still awaiting reply. I hoped I might have been sort of unique and the subject of a duff shipment or something.

Actually this IS a new version because it is 5.1 rather than mono - so why no extras?. Another anomally is that they say it is widescreen when it merely flips from 4:3 to 14:9.

I will probably end up buying the R1 version like I am going to have to do with `The Shining` (putting up with RCE) because the US version is 30 minutes longer than the UK! Can anyone confirm that `Eyes Wide Shut` is still undoctored in this collection, by way? The Kubrick documentary better be good or I am really ripped off.

I don`t like buying R1 films any more because they harder to trade in for the inevitable new version that come out every two years.

Why are Warner Brothers - in particular - so mean?

regards

Norman

Not to mention the poxy `snapper` boxes and look at these shoes, only had `em a week.....

As far as i know the region 1 Kubrick box set contained the same Dr strangelove version as ours, you can only get the features you mentioned on the standalone special editon released by columbia tri star.

I agree though i was dissapointed in the box set as well especially when i found out that the Shining was not the extended version,i`ve just ordered the region 1 version and am in the process of selling the region 2 one on e-bay.

Also the only version of Eyes wide shut that is edited is the region 1 version, our version is the one that Kubrick meant to have in the film.

The documentary was shown on TV about a month back on BBC2 at about midnight, it`s commentated by Tom Cruise.

I thought WB weren`t implementing this?! Even Sony only put RCE on new movies - not rereleases of old ones.

Got a refund from MVC because it was not as advertised on their website (and all the others).

I really don`t know what to do now. Can anyone confirm that the R1 Dr. Strangelove has the extra features or not? By the way you can get the R1 set from Playcentric for about £82 delivered, it is £99 from Movietyme. But perhaps it is better to have the R2 version and just buy Dr. Strangelove and The Shining in R1?

The RCE warning came from Play247. Just what does the extra 30 minutes contain in the shining? - the difference seems enormous.

Incidentally Clockwork Orange was apparently banned due to Kubrick`s paranoia about death threats.

Both US and UK versions of `Eyes wide shut` were `Director`s Cuts` - K. himself directed the censorship.

Ended up ordering the 8 disk R4 set (without Dr. Strangelove) for 154.87 $AUS - 51.74 £UK (including airline postage & insurance) from DVDCrave

I have order Dr. Stangelove SE and The Shining long version seperately - I don`t mind having both Kubrick`s cuts of the Shining because there is a big difference there.

I still have change from the 89.99 £UK that I paid for the original set!

Got a duplication on 2001 though because I have the SE version with the soundtrack CD. Still works out at remarkable though.

RCE on remastered Kubrik`s?

I purchased 2001 and FMJ (remastered) and tried them last night on my modified Sony (after having kittens seeings as the Shining is on order - see above).

Both played without probs. But that could mean my mods defeats Warner RCE (it doesn`t defeat Columbia Pants-star RCE).
