FUTURAMA WILL BE BACK!!!!!
From TV Guide
Quote:
Three years after Fox canceled the show, Matt Groening`s "Futurama" will resume production for a 13-episode run on Comedy Central.
The new episodes will be added to the network`s library of 72 "Futurama" episodes previously licensed from 20th Century Fox Television. Voice talent Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio will return for the new episodes, which will debut in 2008.
"There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library, but something they`ve never seen as well," said David Bernath, senior VP, programming, Comedy Central.
"Futurama" marks the third Fox project revived by basic cable in recent years. New episodes of "Greg the Bunny" are being ordered by IFC, and Fox resurrected "Family Guy" after the series found success on Cartoon Network`s Adult Swim.

I`m not sure where they can go with the Fry/Leela story but this is great news. :D

There have been rumours of this on and off since it was originally cancelled. Billy West had something confirming this on his website a few weeks ago, then took it off and its been like that for ages.
Im afraid, I`ll believe it when I literally see it.
But, part of me kinda hopes they dont. 6 perfect seasons. No `It isnt as funny as it used to be` business. Just pure greatness.
As far as Fry and Leela are concerned, they didnt ever explicitly get together so I think it would be perfectly reasonable for her to go back to being reasonably ambivalent, yet a bit more affectionate towards him.

The season just ended, and it never resolved anything just Leela walking out of the concert without any feelings for him, and Fry ended up on his own playing that cello.

Did you even watch the last one?
Leela stayed, said `I want to see how it ends` and Fry plays her a crappy, yet impossibly romantic (always makes the mrs cry) version of the opera he was writing, with Leela clearly opening up to the idea of her and Fry.
Best.series.end.evar. IMHO.

Kids will be over the moon at this, THO doesn`t (usually) get the jokes\homages.
Quote:
With his own hands, Fry can no longer play the holophonor, and the remainder of the opera is terrible. Everyone in the audience leaves, except for Leela who asks that he not stop playing, as she wanted to "hear how it ends". The finale of Fry`s opera shows a very crudely-animated Fry and Leela kissing.
I always thought they (the crudely animated ones) walked off hand in hand into the sunset (or some such variation).
I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

They did, but I always considered this to be part of Frys undying optimism. The ending itself was very open ended, yet you could easily infer that it was a happy one, but leaves it just open enough to continue, which makes it so great.

Well it`s been ages since I last seen it, but I did remember thinking, how could Fox cancel the series without even letting them do a proper final episode?

Well, first I heard they`d just plain re-started the series. Then it was 3 movies, now it`s just 13 shows.
I thought the last episode was perfect, and indicative of the genius behind the show. Fox hasn`t got a clue when it comes to popular shows. They just look at the numbers rather than the devoted fanbase.
