DVD-Audio/SACD site recommendations

Title says it all really - looking for stuff not listed on Play like Aerosmith`s Toys In The Attic on SACD but having a hard time finding it. While I`m at it, I`ve a multiregion Pioneer dvd-a/sacd dvd player - I`m assuming I can play dvd-a/sacd titles from other regions, right?

If it is multi region then yes. If it is not, well - suffice to say the Pioneer is one bitch to hack, but it CAN be done! :)

Yep, it`s definitely multiregion so I`m assuming the "hack" also works on dvd-audio/sacd dics and not just dvd-video discs?

DVD-A and SACD dont use any region coding so you wont have any problems.

If PLAY dont list the discs you want (are there any DVDA releases anymore) then check out Amazon.COM.

I assume you have the SACD of War of the Worlds and Dark Side of the Moon.

Personally I dont see the point in SACD that is plain stereo as the difference is not that noticeable.

Check out some of the DTS cd`s out there ,they are just as good as the 5.1 SACD on offer

Check out http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/ for lists and reviews of surround material available on DVD-A and SACD.

The "Used and New" sellers on Amazon.co.uk can supply a lot of this stuff at very good prices (Caiman.com is one of my regular suppliers).

The Beatles "Love" CD/DVD-A set is a must buy for the DVD-A surround mix.

Thanks for the site tips folks. Like most people here I can`t really undertand why DVD-A/sacd hasn`t taken off. When music is remixed properly the difference in quality to cd is quite staggering.
Definitely agree that multi channel is the only way to go too. Call me an audio-philistine but after hearing Boh Rhap remixed (with care) in multi-channel I`d never go back to vanilla stereo.
Are you sure that there`s definitely no region coding on DVD-A/sacds? In the troubleshooting guide for my Pioneer 696 it says that if a DVD-A/sacd disc doesn`t play it may be from a different region...

I`ve never had a problem with region coding on DVD-As or SACDs on any of my multi-region players although the way some DVD-As have been authored can cause problems on a few machines. My old Pioneer machine couldn`t play the DVD-A layer on a couple of DVD-A discs but they work fine on my current Denon 1930. Again http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/ is pretty useful for seeing if a particular problem is machine- or make-specific.

Welcome to the ranks of those who appreciate surround music but I would be wary of assuming that just because it`s on SACD or DVD-A the music will sound better - Silverline produced some really good DVD-As and some really awful ones in the early days. I would check the review at quadraphonicquad.com first and then all you`ve got to do is find a copy somewhere (not necessarily an easy task as a lot of these discs are now out of print and new stuff seems to be becoming limited to mainly jazz and classical SACDs (with the odd exceptions of the Beatles "Love", the Doors, Depeche Mode and the old Moody Blues albums)).

Just ordered Aerosmith`s Toys in the Attic (sacd), Beach Boys` Pet Sounds (dvd-audio) and Megadeth`s Peace Sells But Who`s Buying (dts) from Acoustic Sounds.

Thanks for the advice batnet - I have a couple of Silverline releases (Motorhead`s Ace of Spades and Gary Moore`s Back to the Blues). Back to the Blues sounds great but not had a chance to crank up Ace of Spades yet... damn kids ;-)

I know what you mean about there being a "limited" amount of titles out there - limited is my polite way of saying crap. For every excellent Queen release there`s 5 or 6 Handel`s Water music... not knocking the classics but a bit more variety would be nice. Which reminds me I must give Holst`s The Planets another listen now that I`ve upgraded to proper dvd-audio. I can see my cd collection gathering dust already.
