Ged Ruxton (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 4th December 2001, 13:11

I am buying a Toshiba SD210E DVD player to link up with TV and there is a option to get a multi regioin or single region for £30 less. Is there a method to hack this model if bought in region 2 state. What are the advantages of multi region. Are the region 2 discs a lot cheaper and where do you get them from. I have posted this in other sites so apologies if you have seen before

There isn`t a hack for Toshiba machines. You will need to get it chipped or get the firmware changed. That can be done for about £50.

If I was you just buy a multi-region Toshiba, you can get the SD210E for about £180-£200.

I have a multi-region SD110E and I think it`s an excellent machine and it only cost me £150.

With a multi-region machine you have a choice as to which versions you want to buy and where to source them from.

I buy a lot from Canada and Australia at prices upto a third less than sites like Play 247.

I am not that bothered myself with all the extras so I just look for the cheapest version.

Though I do make sure the disc has an anamorphic transfer and has Dobly Digital, hopefully 5.1 as well.

I`m expecting delivery of Almost Famous Bootleg dvd from Canada for £14.50, Play will have it for £16.99 do doubt.

I know it`s only £2.50 cheaper but the savings soon mount up and before you know it you`ll have paid for your player

--but be warned, buying dvds does become somewhat addictive!!

Regarding Region2 disc prices and where to get:
Region 2 is the european region, so you can get them anywhere. Prices are usually higher than other regions, even taking postage into account. You will often find that Region1 (USA etc) discs have more extras on them than the R2 release, and often come out a significant time earlier than over here. Region4 (Australasia) tend to be cheaper - partly to do with exchange rates, I`m sure. All good reasons to go for multiregion.

Here is a link to a thread with a list of good places to buy from, for all the main regions:

Although you have received some useful replies, this is NOT the forum for asking about Region Hacks for players. Might I suggest that the REGION HACKS forum would be more suitable ?!

If you think about the subject matter of your querey, and post in the correct forum, you stand a far higher chance of receiving the help you need.
