Page 1 of vcds what are they where can you get them .

a friend of mine who knows someone told me about vcds and said he got hold of a copy of lord of the rings and black hawk down on vcd how where from and how much i dont know but he lent me the nicole kidman film the others last night it was on 2 discs but played ok and was watchable what do people think or are they fake like the old pirate vhs from way back .

lord of the rings was probably a fake. VCDs are video cds and come on cds that u can play on your computer and/or dvd player. The quality is decent but nowhere near as good as dvd.
They normally come on 2-3 discs as they take up a lot of space and cds can only hold 650-750mb of data. There is no index marking or menus.
try http://www.videomas.com for vcds. Its a malaysian site that sells original vcds for around £5 inc p+p

Dicanio, have you ever ordered from videomas.com? If so, what is the quality, delivery, etc like?

Most of these pirate vcd`s originate from the far east. Have seen many
where some muppets taken a digital camcorder into the flicks and tried to hold it steady with people coughing and farting all over the place.
Some are OK, have been pirated professionally and sold for a pittance
at bazaars throughout the asian subcontinent.


Saw a copy of Harry Potter on bootleg dvd only last week, full scene and language selection (Thai, Malay, cantonese and English available).
Pic and sound quality much better than vcd although not as good as
original when released worldwide.......Heard a rumour that Lord of the
Rings on bootleg dvd is doing the rounds as well.

yeah i used videomas once. decent service. recieved my vcd in about 6-7 days

Strictly in the interest of research I have recently seen Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings on VCD. Quality was ok and quite watchable. Cheaper than going to the cinema and helps me make my mind up whether I am going to spend my hard earned pennies on the original DVD when released. I originally saw the Matrix on pirate VHS and liked it so much I bought the original DVD and it`s fantastic, so everyone`s a winner! Pirate copies, whilst strictly illegal and not to be condoned, can give a film some free publicity and if it`s any good encourages people to go and buy the original.

Saw Harry Potter and Disney`s Dinosaurs on VCD if not I might have bought this dross!

Wasp - my point exactly and from what I saw I don`t think I`ll bother with Harry Potter either. Glad I didn`t fork out to watch this nonsense at the local Showcase, which leaves me more dosh to spend on pukka DVDs!

I echo both your sentiments......Harry Potter.....waste of time.
Luckily saved my schrapnel as well. Pity the poor folks who
paid good money to see absolute dribble...JK Rowling must be
laughing all the way to her bank (Swiss of course !!).
