Page 1 of Audition from DDDHouse. ***BIG SPOILER WITHIN***

Just got it this morning and watched it tonight. Quite unpleasant in places. Not quite sure what was meant to be going on though.

There are a lot of surreal scenes in the movie, but it`s a fairly straightforward plot. Man seeks wife. Holds fake audition for movie. Picks female. She was abused by her dance teacher as a kid, as well as by other men in her life. Thinks she`s found ideal man, but feels betrayed when he tells her he loves his son. She`s not willing to share him with anyone else. She tortures men who betray her. She breaks into his house. She drugs him - weird montage of scenes as man realises she is a nutcase. She tortures him. Son kills her.

What`s not to understand ?

Great movie, if a little OTT at times !

No, I understood what was going off but I wasn`t sure if it really happened to him......!

Y`know, whether he actually experienced all that or whether it was a manifestation of his guilt over his dead wife....perhaps he thought he could never be rightfully happy again!!

I looked at it from both sides, maybe I`ve read to much into the film or maybe that would have been a better angle...dunno...but it was a strange one to say the least.

I think it was some kind of truth drug, making him see the reality of the messed-up situation he was in.

He didn`t actually experience any of those weird shenanigans (that bloke with no fingers in the sack - man, that was sick) - they were just hallucinations : it was just some sort of dark realisation as to how messed up Asimi was.

Great film - I learned a lot about Japanese culture from it, too, so highly educational too !

Aaaah but would you try accupuncture after seeing this film ?
Check out some of the directors other films, seems to have done some quite surreal gangster films.
These japanese horror films make a change from the american ones which seem to have forgotten about horror and tend to play for laughs for a teen audience these days.

That is the good thing about this film....it has you thinking about it for a a good while after you have seen it.

I did,nt find it so straightforward to understand right away.

It takes a while to get going but it is a good film. I`ve only watched it the once, I will have to watch it again (this time without my girlfriend who found it too unpleasant....birds....eh!).

Actually the ironic thing about my girlfriend watching it was that she couldn`t wait for it to finish & to quote her , "After this can we watch something a little more pleasant?``. Now, after the film had finished she proceeded to turn on MTV and watch Jackass which featured people having colonic irrigations and people throwing their guts up!!!
