2024 seems to be the year of trailers with incredibly terrible music choice.

Especially weird since the original film's score is particularly memorable (albeit heavily borrowed from Holst and Wagner).

Film itself looks... well made, but completely unnecessary.

Writer`s Release

Agreed the music is lousy.
Trailer seems to major on Denzel who I'd watch in anything.
Mescal seems to be a lot more 'Sparta!' than Russel Crowe.
Not enough Pascal to form a definite impression but I do like the guy.

All in all I'll watch it but I won't be rushing to the cinema and will probably wait till it streams.

Gladiator was a great film right up to the end, where the emperor cheated in the last fight, I did not like that. Never watched it since.

its things like that which can put you off a film. Lets hope this one is better.

I was in Rome a few weeks back and had a guided tour around the Colosseum - absolutely incredible.  They told us about the time it was filled with water and a naval battle was recreated.  I'd never heard of this to be honest and looking at it first hand, it's astonishing they managed to fill this place up and it not leak straight back out again - never mind getting ships and a few thousand people in there.  Will certainly see this but can't see how it will get close to the original.

Seeing that in the trailer I thought... no way did they do that, then watched the Historian Reacts bit about it and... okay so they did (maybe not during the period portrayed) and was amazed.
