Armageddon - which version..

Play have a R2 2 disc version for £16.99 (147mins)
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=94711

And an R1 2 disc version (Criterion Collection) for 29.99 which seems expensive. (151 mins)
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=4376

And finally EZ-DVD have an R4 2 disc version at: £12 approx. (147mins)
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/219224

The time difference is 4 minutes extra on the R1 - is that because of NTSC vs PAL or is there actually 4 minutes of extra footage? (Both R4+R1 claim to be the directors cut)

you should have posted this in the Software forum where you might get more answers. Basically there are 2 different versions the DC and the normal cut. Germany and France have the normal cut therefore no director`s commentary =avoid. The UK disc is the DC. I got it and I`m totally satisfied with it and you can probably pick it up for only a few quid. There is also the Japanese R2 which has DTS as well, but AFAIK the japanese discs are expensive and I`m not sure if that`s the DC or normal cut.
Basically to cut a long story short(hell why did I even write the first bit) R1,R2 and probably R4 are all the DC R1 has a few more extras than R2 and R4 (which might be the same discs). oh just found this:(http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video/armageddoncriterion.htm) CAUTION!!!!!!!!! the R1 is NON-ANAMORPHIC!!!!!!!!!!!
So go for either R2(UK) or R4
cheers for eading the whole post. you might as well ignore everything except the last line.

R2 2 disc version is the same as the R1 Criterion Collection one, so I would get that one. It ca be bought in HMV in their sale, its cheap in a lot of stores. V.shop, Wollies MVC etc.

Great fun movie!

You dont get Michael Bays Excellent Gag Reel in the region 2/4 version of the film. Its not worth paying the extra money just for that unless you are a true armageddon fan. I have the region 1 criterion collection. Yes the picture is non anamorphic but it is brilliant and sound is also awesome.

Blackstar deal looks like a winner - signed up on smile - does the £5 voucher come through the e-mail at a later date - or is there a special link / page?

Hi you get the voucher shorly after you sign up or somethng. Blackstar charge a bomb for p+p so it works out at £5.34 i think
Still well worth it. I happened to pay £25 for my criterion one. Still dont regret it though
