Have VIDEOGAMES reached there Peak??????
PS2, XBOX, GameCube, Geforce 4 Blah, Blah, Blah
All the above Games Consoles (and PC Card) could BLOW the PANTS off any games console from the past 10 yr`s, BUT do they REALLY offer anything NEW. You look around at how many video games are released on all formats and begin to think, when did it become so STALE?
Don`t get me wrong, I still play the odd video game that really kicks ass and makes you go "COOL, Now this is new", but most of the time its just re-hashed Platform game after FPS, after Sports game etc...
Maybe Videogames are going through a transitional period where the producers don`t know what the public want and are just churning out garbage after garbage hoping to sprout a golden nugget? Who knows.
Hopefully VIDEOGAMES do get better but I fear the worse. Yeah there may be gamers out there who think GRAPHICS are EVERYTHING and that`s very sad. All I have to say is enjoy your PS3, XBOX2 and Geforce 12, just don`t expect anything you`ve not played before. ;-)

Thats like asking the old how long is a piece of string question...
The only limiting factors for compter games are, Technology which at the pace it improves at isnt much of a limitation. And of course games designers imaginations, which is a bigger limiting factor.
But the simple answer is no they havent.
And like music, it wont be too long before someone does a cover of someone elses game.

There is an answer to that:-
Its twice the distance of the end to the centre.
Its the same with computer games you think they cannot exceed our gaming expectations, then there is suddenly a big jump in technology and the games knock your socks off.
Just look at the recent history of the computer game which has went from Ping-pong & Pacman right up to todays very realistic gaming in a very short time.
The future? well its still to come, 3D possibly, who knows, but I bet there is someone, somewhere, working away right now on the next thing in gaming, all set to take our hard earned cash.
And as gaming punters we will buy it.

Holograms, and special suits that make you actually feel pain when your character gets hit/shot/rubbed...
Ahem, enough of my ramblings....

As much as the graphics and sound on the latest games on any platform are great in comparison to older consoles, many do lack playability.
For example, I was playing Super Bomberman 2 with a friend on my SNES the other night.
How many Xbox/PS2 games do you think we`ll still play for hours in ten years time?

And also look at the amount of people that seem to be using emulators of older systems - what does that tell you!

*just recieved Sonic Mega Collection for his Gamecube and says nothing*

Hello there comrades,I still reckon far better games could be made. It`s just like films.......the things cost so much to make that no one is willing to take any chances in case the game bombs and money is lost. It`s far easier to churn out another sequel.
It`s possible to fit 100`s of thousands of pictures on a DVD.A whole town or city could be `mapped out` with images of every single item in the environment.Within in this arena many types of game could be implemented.Every single leaf, rock and insect could be recorded to make a Ramboesque survival game or a game where you play a rat who can go into any house via sewers etc etc etc..Every item and person in a whole town could be used in a murder mystery game. The possibilities are limitless.Game developers only use a fraction of the total possibilities.Games are only limited by the people making them.

Thats a very good point about Super Bomberman. That game was class.
But GTA 3 and VC offer HOURS of gameplay.

I was playing on a few old classic Speccy, Amiga games via an emulator the other day, now I have found memories of Yie Ar Kung Fu, Target Renegade, Sensible Soccer, etc... etc... and they should stay that way, just a memory!
I was disappointed with them, they just weren`t what I remembered. Sorry, but 99% of old games are kack now!!! (Sorry!!)
I don`t think games have gone stale at all. Like Chewie says GTA is a classic, and I`m sure in about 20 years some old kodger is going to play this on an emulator and ramble on about games going stale!!
I`d much rather play Tekken, and MK with hundreds of moves rather than press one button to do a punch!
Graphics are better, yes, but so is playability. Remember 80% of games released are crap now, but they were 5-10 years ago as well!
At the moment, I`m playing Pro Evo 2. MK : Deadly Alliance. GTA Vice City (still). Eternal Darkness. Tekken Tag (still). Monkey Ball. These are all great games, packed full of playability. No way are games stale, I wish I was 12 again, as I don`t have the time to play them all!
