Getting my ps2 online in the uk?
Need help from someone living in the UK who has BT broadband.
I`ve been thinking about getting a broadband adaptor for my ps2 so that obviously i can play stuff like socom online.
Anyway i was checking up on the net how this ps2 online stuff works and someone said that i have to buy a new modem from BT cos my current BT broadband adsl modem is not the right one for the ps2 online stuff at a cost of £75.....is this true?
Does anyone else have a bt broadband connection and has got there ps2 online who could give me some info.
hi bigjon...
I am with BT and have my PS2 set up online through them.
What you need is a BT Voyager 200 Router ADSL Modem.
We paid £99 for ours and that was when we first set up BB with them , so i dont know and cant remember if that included the set up fee and connection . I think it was for the Modem alone.
This has an ethernet connection for the playstation in the back and the usb connection for the PC.
Happy gaming. ;)
edit... Oh and dont forget all the stuff you need for the Ps2 as well, You prob already know what you need.
Click here for instructions on what you need and how to do it....
The adaptors for the back of the PS2 are about £20-£25 quid and they come with the set up disc and ethernet cable.
Just pop the disc in when you have finished putting the adaptor in the back of the ps2 ( take down the serial number and the model number on the back of the ps2 first , you will need it)
there is a panel at the back of the ps2 which just clips off. then the adaptor slots in and you screw it on .
After that it is just a matter of following on screen instructions from the disc....

or buy adsl router for about £40 and configure it to allow connection to your ps2
cokie enjoy
Or just add a network card to your PC if your ADSL modem is USB only & enable internet connection sharing, using a crossover Cat5 cable to connect between the PC & PS2.

Just remember that BT don`t/won`t support anyone`s routers except ones they supply (at a stupid price)
However, other routers will work - providing you put in something like "password" in the password section in the router config (as BT only uses username authentication)
The Internet Connection Sharing is the cheapest option, but it also means the PC needs to be on all the time you use the PS2 online.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info,a mate of mine sorted me out with a cheap router and i`mconnected and ready to go.
Now i have connected up to central station and registered my handle and password and was wondering how the f*** you connect to a game.I have socom 2 and basically selected the online option form the socom2 game menu and entered my playername/handle and password that i use on central station and tried to connect to the socom server. However i keep getting a message saying"player name not found.would you like to register this player name?"so i click yes and then it says"registration failure" and logs me out and returns me to the connect to socom 2 page that has your playername, password, hometown and gender info.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help
Hey m8 i had the exact same problem, and i got the answer. You might not actually bieleve me but he goes. In socom 2 there is a slight error, it does not recognize the capital letter `B`. This means tht if you central station game handle and/or password has a `B` in it, then it will say "Registration Failure". Trust me on this, i couldnt bieleve it when it actually worked.
Heres how to change ur games handle and password.
Go on to central station using your network access disc, login then clik on your profile, then select edit main profile. just go through all of the steps till you come to the password and game handle section of it, and change them, simple huh??
Good luck.
If you or anyone else is having problems following my instructions just email me
