E3 2021 | Summer Game Fest

Gareth Williams (Elite) posted this on Monday, 7th June 2021, 00:06

After taking a break due to the pandemic last year, E3 is back on again in 2021 with an all-digital platform. No longer shackled to US Pacific timezone, the conferences can now take place at more globally friendly times instead of the middle of the night.

Here is a summary of the key dates/times to look out for:

Wednesday June 9th

Battlefield

15:00 | Twitch

Although there have been many leaks and teasers, this will be the first official look at the next Battlefield game. It is rumoured to feature a near-future setting with enormous maps that dwarf anything seen in a BF game to date.

Thursday June 10th

Summer Game Fest

19:00 | Twitch

Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest is back with a big event on June 10, which will include news, "announcements, and updates" from over 30 game publishers, such as Activision, Epic Games, PlayStation, and Xbox. It will also include a special performance by the band, Weezer (who are apparently still a thing).

Elden Ring might finally make an appearance. Git hyped!

Friday June 11th

Koch Primetime

20:00 | Twitch (currently broadcasting a live teaser, actual conference may appear on another channel)

No idea, but it was confirmed that there will be nothing for Dead Island 2, Saints Row, Metro or TimeSplitters.
So idk lol.

Saturday June 12th

Ubisoft Forward

20:00 | Twitch

Far Cry 6 will be the main focus this year.

The following titles may also be featured:
Riders Republic
R6 Parasite/Quarantine
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Assassin's Creed VR
Splinter Cell VR

Devolver Digital

21:30 | Twitch

Usually one of the comedic highlights of E3. No idea what will be shown, except that they have recently been hinting towards a Hotline Miami 3.

Gearbox

TBA | Twitch

No idea what they will show, possibly the rumoured Borderlands spin-off leaked by Take-Two (see below).

Sunday June 13th

Microsoft (+ Bethesda)

18:00 | Twitch

Usually one of the biggest shows of the event, this will be a packed show with lots of reveals and showcases. Among them, I would expect:

Halo Infinite
STALKER 2
State of Decay 3
Avowed
Fable
Perfect Dark
Starfield
And a lot more... (but probably not Elder Scrolls VI)

Square Enix

20:15 | Twitch

Guardians of the Galaxy
Babylon's Fall
Black Panther expansion for Marvel's Avengers
Life is Strange: True Colors
Life is Strange: Remastered Collection
And more...

Warner Bros

TBA | Twitch

Back 4 Blood will be the big focus but this may also feature:
Gotham Knights
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Hogwarts Legacy

PC Gaming Show

TBA | Twitch

The annual cringe-fest presented by PC Gamer. Expect reveals for a million indie titles, mostly comprising walking simulators, survival sandbox/resource gathering games, battle royale clones, pixel/voxel art games, and pretty much any other niche you can think of.

Future Games Show

00:00 (June 14th in BST) | Twitch

Presented by Nolan North and Laura Bailey ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
More of the above, but not specific to PC gaming.
Expect a lot of indies.

Monday June 14th

Capcom

TBA | Twitch

Things that may or may not appear:

RE Village DLC
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Dragon's Dogma 2
Street Fighter VI
Pragmata (mysterious new IP which was delayed until 2023, but it could be teased)

Take-Two Interactive

TBA | Twitch (not sure yet, possibly just the E3 channel)

Leaked titles include:

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - a Borderlands spin-off featuring Tiny Tina
Codename VOLT - mysterious new action game described "Cthulhu meets Saints Row"
Codename CODA - new turn-based Marvel action game from Firaxis (described as XCOM with Marvel heroes)
NBA2K22 - aka another re-badged casino masquerading as a basketball game

Tuesday June 15th

Nintendo Direct

17:00 | Twitch

Billed as "exclusively on Nintendo Switch software", so probably no details on the new Switch.
Maybe they will show Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4.
Nobody knows.

Bandai Namco

TBA | Twitch

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wednesday June 16th

Steam Next Fest

A six-day event featuring hundreds of playable demos for upcoming games on Steam.

Battlefield 2042 cinematic trailer

Gameplay reveal coming on the 13th, possibly part of the Microsoft briefing.

Actually kind of excited for this one.

Does look like we're getting back to the way BF should be, not quite 2142 which is the best time I had on BF by a long way but looks pretty good...

2142 and they are still using standard rifles, machine guns, fossil fuel burning  helicopters and tank models from the recent past and present. I was hoping for something a bit more advanced or futuristic.

It is 2042 not 2142, so only 20 years into the future. After the terrible reception that COD: Infinite Warfare got, I can see why they wouldn't go too futuristic with this one.

Also nice to see them trying to appeal to their core audience, rather than calling us uneducated morons like they did with BFV. The reference to the legendary "Rendezook" clip in the trailer brought a huge smile to my face. For those who don't remember:

**** me, I remember that!  I've always avoided flying so far in BF as was always s*** at it, preferring to go as gunner...

And now some highlights from the Microsoft show:

Outer Worlds video is worth watching even if you have no interest in the game.
