I would`ve posted in consoles, but it is also a bargain!

For the benefit of those who aren`t DVD Forums members, the thread is about a rumour that the PS2 will be reduced to £99 to steal the GameCube`s thunder.

To me, it doesn`t sound that far fetched - it`s just common sense. If the brand new GameCube costs £129, the PS2 at £199 doesn`t seem such an attractive proposition any more.

I think a similar thing happened when the SNES came out; Sega were forced to drastically reduce the price of the Mega Drive to keep it competitive.

The only question is: if this rumour is true, where does this leave Microsoft?

Dixons, Currys etc have been advertising the PS2 at £99 all week, but there is a proviso (isn`t there always), it`s only that price when bought with 5 games. Total selling price, around £300, not so cheap all in one go. Also the X-Box has been advertised as dropping to £199 on Friday, £100 off the price.

Yes X-Box is £199 on Friday, if you already have them you can get 2 free games and a free controller from MS.

I`ll be almost dissapointed if it doesn`t appear @ £99 come Friday. I hope SONY do this. It`d be in their best intersest because thousands of people like myself will go out and buy one and buy a couuple of games to go with it. Can you imagine how many games will be sold if that goes ahead!
