New Console Price Cuts in US

Cork (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 15th May 2002, 11:28

Sony is going to announce that the PS2 is being reduced from $299 to $199. In a knee jerk reaction Microsoft are doing the same thing. Now all three consoles cost $199 in the US. Of course both Nintendo and Sony can manufacture the consoles at this price while MS will be taking a big loss on each console.
Even though $199 is £137. I would expect MS and Sony to drop the price down to £150 or at the very worst, leave the prices as they are. Basically wherever Sony goes, MS will follow.
Also as part of the ongoing price war both Sony and Nintendo are knocking $10 off the price of the official controllers.
It`s never been a better time to get a console, though I`d be more interested in the availability of cheaper games...

MS have followed - the XBox has dropped again, down to £199

Hopefully it`ll follow into Europe as well.

A lot of games have also dropped to $29.99

Looks like MS have a disaster on their hands and are really needing to start shifting the consoles.

The PSOne has been slashed in price as well, to $49 (about £34!)
