New Console Price Cuts in US

Sony is going to announce that the PS2 is being reduced from $299 to $199. In a knee jerk reaction Microsoft are doing the same thing. Now all three consoles cost $199 in the US. Of course both Nintendo and Sony can manufacture the consoles at this price while MS will be taking a big loss on each console.
Even though $199 is £137. I would expect MS and Sony to drop the price down to £150 or at the very worst, leave the prices as they are. Basically wherever Sony goes, MS will follow.
Also as part of the ongoing price war both Sony and Nintendo are knocking $10 off the price of the official controllers.
It`s never been a better time to get a console, though I`d be more interested in the availability of cheaper games...

Thanks for the tip. I ordered the Disc on the 12th and my credit card was charged today, the 14th. However the estimated dispatch date according to their order page is November 28th. Not very comforting...

Thanks Mike. The TV is a Samsung CII-5052AT about 6 years old. It`s a fairly basic 21" model. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated as I`ve just ordered a bundle of region 1 dvd`s and having them all flicker could drive me insane :-)

Region 1 NTSC and PAL

I have a Samsung DVDM105 and I recently got the Simpsons Box Set region 1. The region hack worked fine but when i watch the dvd there is a slight flickering in the upper left portion of the screen. I checked that quasi-pal was on and when I turned it off the slight flickering went away buy there were other artefacts instead. I know the TV can handle 60Hz. Could this be the symptom of a poor Scart lead? Or anything else?

Problems Contacting Play247

I`m missing a Simpsons Box set that was posted on October 10th. I`ve since received a DVD that was posted on the 16th, so naturally I`m worried.
The problem is that I can`t contact play. Since I`m outside the UK, I phone +44 1534 633 155. However, the phone just keeps ringing and ringing and nobody answers. Maybe the number is no longer in use. Do you guys have this experience? If not, would somebody mind phoning them and asking them what their number is for people outside the UK. I`ve tried emailing them but have had no response. Cheers.

I ordered simpsons on September 28th and it was posted on October 10th. It`s the 25th now and I still haven`t received it. I can`t get through by phone and I get no response by e-mail.

When I key in the hack, I get a 7 in the top corner, what does this mean? I haven`t tried any region 1 discs yet on the player.

Exchange Rates

I know that a lot of people are ordering from foreign companies under the impression that they are making big savings, but are we sure this is the case. What exchange rates are we being charged for our orders. Every currency converter I check gives me a different rate. For example, lets take $30 Australian. At the EzyDVD site I get £10.55. At ww.xe.net I get £10.60 but at www.travelex.com I get £9.90. Obviously, the bigger the order the bigger the price difference in these different rates. Our credit card companies probably charge a different rate again. What are other people`s experiences on this?

HMV Sale problem

Got Rush Hour in HMV`s excellent sale. Turned out to be faulty. All the features and 20 mins of the film were completely garbled. I could see tiny scratches on the disc, not caused by me. I brought it back and they told me they had no more Rush Hour`s on Sale and that I`d have to pay double the price simply to swap it for a new one. I took a refund. I think this is bad service.

Doesn`t the fact that when I turn on the DVD player the screen changes to the DVD screen show that it supports 8-pin switching? It just doesn`t stay stable or play the sound until I switch to AV.

As for the player, I`ve found it to be excellent in every way. I don`t have a sophisticated home entertainment setup so I can`t say it`s perfect but for me, it has excellent picture, sound, it`s quiet and the remote`s good.

Samsung Player, Scart Lead and AV channel

Hi Guys. I just got my Samsung M105 player. I connected up with a Scart lead I bought separately. When I turned it on, I got the DVD menu scrolling down the screen and the sound from whatever television channel I had on. I was worried until I turned to the AV channel and then everything was alright. Other people I know, they don`t have to turn to the AV channel. Is it just a problem with Samsung players or could it be a bad or unsuitable scart lead?

Guys, I think that the only version of Shrek that is two discs is the Region 1. Play says that Shrek Region 2 is only one disc and so this is probably the same as the devoted DVD.

EZY and Devoted mport Duty

I`ve been looking through the other posts and it isn`t very clear to me how these guys work in terms of import duty. Do they mark the packages as "gifts" or do you have to pay customs if the oder is over a certain amount?

Anybody spotted either of these titles for less that £15? Thats the best price I can get and it`s from Play. I checked HMV and they have neither of them, let alone have them on Sale.

Will somebody please confirmthat they are still receiving DVD`s from dvdimport. A lot of complaints have been posted lately about numerous retailers, it`s not very comforting...

The fact that you need a bunch of strangers to lead you to the right path doesn`t say alot about your character. Do the right thing and phone them up. It`s likely they`ll give you a discounted DVD or something as a reward for showing some honesty, a quality that seems to be surprisingly rare these days.

Changing your details at DVDimport

How do you change your details at Dvdimport? I go into my account and it says "To change details click here". Except that you can`t click anywhere! Any ideas?
Furthermore, does anybody know how you can change your shipping address from your billing address??

The reason I ask is that they don`t seem to respond to any emails.

Absound.ca is the best price on Saving Private ryan at £12.50 but the prospect of waiting 4-11 weeks is unappealling. Local HMV doesn`t even have it in stock let alone have it on sale. HMV online want full price. The hunt continues :-)

Nice price but delivery takes up to 15 days as opposed to 2 days. Your credit card company would also charge you for paying in dollars would they?

Argos claim the 105 play`s MP3`s but I`m not sure about CDR/RW. One nice thing about the Samsung is that it`s multi region out of the box, although some people in the hacks forum are claiming it doesn`t work anymore.
I can`t find a Samsung 205.
The only complaints I`ve heard about the Toshiba is that the remote isn`t great and that its noisy.
There`s a £40 price difference between the Tosh and the Samsung (cheaper). If both players had to be modded then I might aswell get the Tosh.

Samsung M105 VS. Toshiba 210e

I haven`t heard many people talking in the forum about their experiences of the Samsung and wondered what the consensus was on it.
Samsung is cheaper and is multiregion out of the box with a remote hack(apparently).
Yet, you guys have been praising the Toshiba 210e.
Whats the story?

I`m about to buy a Samsung M105 from Argos so I`d like to have this topic cleared up. Can anybody else confirm problems with the M105?
also, ebony-branch, I cheacked for the Alba in Argos and they say that its been withdrawn from the catalogue...in Ireland anyway.

If the M105 is in fact no longer region free, what`s a good alternative?
Preferably a player where you can both set the region or set it to region free.
