Page 1 of pukka grub from Oliver mix up

Maybee I dont get the joke so can someone please explain. In the latest advert for a well known supermarket , jamie Oliver goes shopping for his mate after receiving a telephone call. His mate asks him to get the food as he needs help. Jamie says how much do you want to spend? to which his friend replies £30. Jamie says that his friend owes him a fiver so he calls it £25 surely if his friend owes him a fiver it should be £35 . If jamie owes him a fiver it would be £25 ? Am i missing the point here or something. Please help me why the men in white jackets are fastening up the straps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what you`ve wrote it seems right.

Jamies friend wants to buy £30 worth of food and he wants jamie to get it for him.

He owes jamie a fiver, "Jamie says that his friend owes him a fiver " so jamie buys £25 worth of food. Gives the food to his mate and his mate gives him the £30 - jamie has scored on a fiver as the shopping only came to £25. The friend no longer owes him £5.

Don`t forget the change from the £25 too, so he made a tiny profit there too, the cheeky Cockney shyster :-)

ahhhhh this confused me too. thanks for clarification. I`ve genuinely spent some minutes clocking this advert and trying to fathom it. so his mate still gives hime 30 quid. Yet Jamie is still able to rustle up the grub (inc dog food) for a measly £25 (less change) nice.

ahhhhh but.............the friend only gives him £25 I think, therefore he makes a loss.

if he got change like clayts said then he would still make a profit even if it was only £25 he was given.

The only thing confusing about this ad is how anyone would let Jamie Oliver cook for them!
Surely they must realise that 25% of their meal will consist of Oliver`s stray saliva!
