I`m trying to access my Yahoo mail account from work but the pesky IT dept has put a block on me from getting it. I get an error message saying see system administrator for access to this site. The bloke in charge of this is an utter chimp who relishes his "gatekeeper" position, so was wondering if anyone knew how I could bypass this and access Yahoo mail through a different route. I don`t think POP mail is an option as Yahoo charge for it.
Cheers in advance....
RE: Tech Help Needed
have you tried changing your browser settings to bypass any proxy servers you may have there?
Cheers Alan, didn`t seem to work - although am I right in trying to do it through the internet options drop down menu? Any other ideas anyone?
try going through www.ask.com ask a question related to yahoo or type yahoo and it may let you get in that why.
Alas he is very likely using a transparent proxy gateway which you cannot avoid. However, you may be able to search the net for an open web proxy which could then be used to connect to Yahoo (or any other site).
A list of possible free web proxies are here:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Proxies/Free/
Although be aware that all your access details to yahoo can be compromised by passing them through other sites.
If you had a permanent connection at home you could setup a web proxy there (password it tho ffs :) ) and go through that.
the last time I checked, only Yahoo.com charged for POP access. Yahoo.co.uk don`t. (or it could be the other way around!). I`ve set up my brothers Yahoo email account so that he uses Outlook 2000 to collect it via POP (SMTP is via Freeserve).

I send and receive my Yahoo Mail with Outlook Express. You had to sign up for Yahoo Delivers to use it, then they send you mailshots every now and again (not many if you dont` give many interests). But earlier this year they started charging as people have already mentioned, so I unsubscribed from the Yahoo Deliver to use web access only. Then I waited a few weeks later and I went back in and resubbed for Yahoo Delivers, and pop access works again now. You could try this.
Yahoo .com and .co.uk addresses are supposed to be paid for pop I think..mine is a .co.uk address.
Settings are:
pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
and I guess for .com it would be the same but ending in .com
Mark.
