Some advice, and a thankyou

Scott Grenney (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd January 2001, 12:39

First time I`ve posted here :)

I`d like to thank the dvd reviewer team and everyone on these forums. I got sick of waiting for a playstation2 (wanted it to play dvds), and in the spare of the moment headed over to these forums and had a scan through them to find a decent dvd player. In the end I got a list together and headed to coment.

The awia model was out of stock (seems a lot of people here think they rock :) ), and in the end had to settle for a Proline DVD2000 player which a few posts on here gave good feedback on.

The player works well, but I need some help. I need to start off my dvd collection, so can anyone recommend some good DVDs to get?

Gladiator is on the top of my list BUT I`ve heard reports the 2nd disc not working on some models of players. Will it work on the Proline DVD2000?

Also is the film ZULU out on DVD yet?

Well cant understand why you had to settle for a proline DVD you should have waited for the AWIA to come back in stock, still thats my opion and doesnt mean a s*** realy .
Has for DVDS easy buy the films you like or rent some out (saves you buying them on earsay) if you havent seen them before, and read the film reviews on this site.

I have a friend who will buy this player off me when I do finally get a ps2 which won`t be out in any great numbers for 2-3 months :(.

The player was needed as I watched the last ever grainy VHS vid I wish to see, and I snapped :).

And although it has a Region Hack, it doesn`t have an NTSC decoder, so you`ll possibly watching them in Black and White.
unless you got a multi standard telly that is....

But seriously, as a games machine, the PS2 is pretty impressive, as a DVD player, it`s kinda crud.

Get an Aiwa 370 to sit with your PS2, and keep the PS2 for what it was designed for, playing games.

(remember I`m in the trade...and saying PS2 is like swearing at anyone in a retailers right now! lol)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!

Im afraid the PS2 is not up to much in the games stakes really. People think it is a good gaming platform as they are fooled by the flashy graphics. I mean it does have powerful graphical abilities but it fails where gameplay and other essential things come into play. If you know what I mean.

Its also really funny as the PS2 is actually making a loss in Japan as everyone is buying the console to use it as a DVD player but then not buying any games. This means that sony make a loss as they sell the console for less than it costs to make but make up for it on the overpriced games. If you know what I mean.

What you want to do is hold out for a Nintendo Gamecube for games and use a decent dvd player for films. That I can accept. If you know what I mean.

Grrrr.

PS: How can something officially "rock"? Thats a personal opinion isnt it?, and not a fact, surely? Think about it.

PPS: I hate the PS2 and my argument is somewhat underproven. I admit it: I love Nintendo. Is that so wrong?

PPPS: I think I am a failure as I am talking about games consoles on a DVD site. Someone kill me.

Grrrrr. If you know what I mean.

The sig was originally a wind up to the Duke`s "Hitachi Rocks", and I added "officially" when DVD Reviewer added the Aiwa to it`s remote hackable pages as a further wind up...it`s just kinda stuck! :oÞ

Nope, nothing wrong there. I hate the PS2 too, however, I lost ALL faith in Nintendo for their DISGRACEFUL handling of the N64 marketing farce!

I mean, how could a FOUR YEAR OLD system ( The Playstation) with less than HALF the power, that was originally designed to be an add-on for the N64`s predecessor (it was a Super NES CD player originally) actually manage to outsell it??
Simple Nintendo Ripped us all off! (And yeah, i was one of the "paid £250 for an N64 brigade..never again!)

Ok, I`ll send da boyz round....but only if you arrange the same for me for doing the same as you! lol

Dreamcast RULES!!!!!!
And it comes packaged with the encore now which must say something about the encore player rite?

I mean, why would sega team up with an encore if they didn`t think their products were reliable/good? Encore must be doing something right to get sega`s attention.

So there...... DREAMCAST RULES!!!!!!
