How long has Sarson`s vinegar had a flip top lid?

flyingmonkey (Elite) posted this on Monday, 24th March 2003, 15:37

Sat down for my steak and chips the other night, my girlfriend passed me a fesh bottle of Sarson`s malt vinegar, I unscrewed the top and proceeded to pour half a bottle of vinegar all over my tea (that`s dinner for you southerners).

My girlfriend insists they`ve been flip top for ages, but it`s news to me!!!

i`m afriad the`ve had them for a long time like that down here in the far south.
Maybe it was screw top for you northern monkeys, but from where we are from we are refined and posh so we use flip top.
Either that or your local Morrisons (isnt that the only northern supermarket?) has had a rogue batch or sarsons have changed them to the flip!

oh well, still the point is your "tea" got soaked. and your girlfreind was right.

Cheers
Gavski

I got caught out too - glad I`m not the only one! ;-)

They`ve only been flip top since about the start of this year. They must have some real sadistic bastards working for them - I mean, what would it take to have a yellow sticker saying "NEW FLIP TOP LID - DO NOT UNSCREW"? Gits.

Mike

Edit: make that sadistic SOUTHERN bastards. Thanks Gavski ;-)

I got caught out as well!

I`m only allowed fish and chips when the missus goes out for the night - so I took the opportunity the other night to treat myself.

I was REALLY looking forward to a lovely piece of haddock and chips and you can imagine my horror when I unscrewed the top and poured almost the entire bottle over my dinner!! Completely bloody ruined!! I tried to salvage it by pouring it into a sieve and letting the excess vinegar flow through - but it wan`t the same as the chips were all soggy.

Personally I think it`s a cunning ploy by Sarsons to increase sales - I mean a bottle of vinegar only lasts 2 or 3 meals now!

What about when you shake the sauce bottle over your dinner and it slips out your hand and smashes your plate in half.

My god - it`s the support group I`ve been looking for! This happened to me a couple of months ago too. Chips completely drowned. I still ate them though.

LOL, glad I`m not the only one to ruin a perfectly good plate of chips with half-a-bottle of vinegar, I was SOOOO p***ed off...

Nearly done it again several times since too!

Thaks guys, I now feel better about myself. My girlfriend couldn`t stop laughing at me and she thought I must have been backwards for not knowing about the lid.
