Widescreen 32" - which one ?

vern (Competent) posted this on Friday, 12th January 2001, 15:10

OK so it`s kind of DVD related.......

I`m looking for a 32" widescreen, not bothered over the make unless someone here says don`t buy it ! but must have 2/3 scarts........silver would be nice to match the LG but ain`t fussed, not like some people and their goldy players !!!!!!! LOL

so opinions please, what have you guys got ? how much did you pay ? are you happy with it (guess you might be)?

I`ve already done a search on here and the majority are 28", I`ve already got a Sanyo 28" (normal telly) so don`t want the screen smaller and as a lot of women say 4 inches makes all the difference !!!!!!!!!!

Vern
fyi I have recently purchased the Panasonic 32PK1 and for a friend the 32PK2 which includes Dolby sound. Both have proved to be superb in both the picture and sound departments. They do not take over the room as the case work is fairly small and so are not as "grand" as some and the buying desision was made after a fairly lengthy side by side comparisons with the Sony 32FX60 and the Philips 32 ???. These comments are only my views so at the end of the day you will be looking at whatever you buy :-) The only other advise I would give is do not buy on price and do not choose your supplier on price, but look about, read some reviews then go to your local independent dealer and look at some sets and then buy locally. 32" WS tv`s are not the easiest of things to return and your local man can pop round to setup things/discuss problems etc. IMHO these tvs and a digital connection DVD or Sky etc are excellent vfm. Best of luck.

I agree with Vern here, the Panasonic PK1 and two are excellent sets and they will both match your LG, being silver and flat screened. If you want even better quality in sound then go for the PK1, which will be about £100 cheaper and put it towards a seperate amp and speakers. You will then get a much better system thats cheaper than the PK2.

If your on a tight budget then you could either go for a Hitachi, not sure of the model No. Or you could gor for a Sharp 32" dolby pro logic surround sound TV. It has tonnes of tuning features, split screen fast text etc, etc. It isnt flat screen, but at less than £800, its a bargain. Again, the panasonic will cost you another £350 - £500 more than the sharp and you could put the rest of your budget to a decent sound kit.

Im definately a believer that the sound quality is much more important than picture quality.

Cheers Bruce and Tony...............yes I am on a tight budget so might have to opt for the Hitashit or Sharp simply because I want a decent sound too, greedy ain`t I !!!!

Thanks for giving your thoughts tho............
