Page 1 of websites on state of alert?
General Forum
Well, it sounds like it might not really amount to nothing more than the usual level of hacker activity, but my webhost, UnitedHosting, have posted the following msg on its forum:
UnitedHosting could be targetted for attack during this weekend. We have made the decision to take these forums offline to prevent any attackers finding customer site addresses in threads and targetting your website.
This attack is not just directed at us, its a worldwide threat which the US government has issued warnings about. If you are interested in reading more about these global attacks you can visit this website.
We have 3 technical staff online for the remainder of this weekend and are monitoring all servers closely. We are also performing routine security hardening. We are confident we are on top of the situation at hand.
If you have any questions or queries we are happy to answer them via our usual support mediums.
Thankyou for your support.

The article headline, Government Warns of Mass Hacker Attacks, sounds like Daily Mail sensationalism, but you can never really tell, can you? Me, I`m waiting for the movie to come out...

Interesting to see what happens over the weekend. What type of site do you run, Anil?

There is a hacking competition running today :
Hackers compete to deface sites
Data could go missing this weekend
Security experts are playing down the likely effect of a hacking contest due to take place on Sunday.
The 6 July contest aims to see 6,000 websites defaced in six hours and will award points to hackers for the types of sites they manage to vandalise.
Apart from a small handful of ping scans, nothing particularly suspicious in our NIS logs.
