Yahoo Scam

W@yne (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 8th July 2003, 20:54

Just had the following email supposedly from yahoo billing services

Dear Yahoo! User,
We encountered a billing error when attempting to renew your Yahoo! service. This type of error usually indicates that either the credit card you have on file has expired or that the billing address we have is not current.

This is your final notice. Please take a moment to update your credit card information by clicking here and submitting your information.

Please note that we will attempt to renew your service five days from today. If we are still unable to charge your credit card at that time, your service will be terminated.

Sincerely,
Yahoo! Billing Department

Oh dear it looks as if my service will be terminated as there is no ****ing way am I giving them my card details.

Looks pretty suspicious to me. The http://www.yahoo-updates.com/ address in the link doesnt actually go to any site (at least for me), just a "can not find server" message.

Also I would have thought Yahoo would only use and address with yahoo.com or (.co.uk) in the domain.

I know that Yahoo do charge if you want to use extended service eg more email space. But their basic service is free and if you`re not already being charged I doubt they would tell you they are going to charge in such an email.

So I would ignore it or maybe contact a yahoo email address from teh web site. BTW I have a Yahoo email account and I have not received a similar email (at least not yet !!).

It sounds like a version of the eBay scam that`s reared it`s head a few times over the last year or two. Ignore it!

It`s a definite scam and as the above says another version of the eBay fraudsters tricks to get you to part with your credit card details. I probably get 2 or 3 of these a month. Ignore them

As well as those mentioned, I have been getting emails from some group called "TakeAction" & the subject line said "Treat the Christians as a Terrorist Organisation" or somthing like that and last week one asking me to participate in the "ASF Card" programme which was something to do with an alcoholics membership card!
I dread to think what kind of marketing profile this suggests I fit into!
These are my only instances of spam (apart from on the hotmail stuff which is only used when travelling) so I guess I have been lucky?

Didn`t take up the email offer but now Thresher / Victoria Wines are part of the Nectar scheme, I`m going Hell for leather for "Gold" status membership...gonna get me some toasters, torches and genuine Irish crystal glasses in no time!
It is great at the moment though isn`t it? A quick game of Swingball in the garden before little Flyer went to bed, then Mrs Flyer off to her nightshift at the hospital (nurses, God love `em!) a few Stellas and a couple of chapters of Martin Cruz Smith whilst listening to the birds twittering and fluttering around in the evening, then a quick hammering of the plastic at Play prior to turning in for the evening.
Aint life just great...(hope you`re all enjoying it as much as me at present anyway)

You hammer the plastic after you have been on the stella`s ? , my misses hides my cards when I am on the juice out of fear of what will turn up on the doorstep a few days later.

It`s alright though, It`s not real money is it? Anyway, I could give it up anytime I wanted...couldn`t I? (Oooh, that sounds horribly familiar...). With the Welsh and English genes in me, even when confused with alcohol, I still remain almost as tight as a vacuum(?) and am mentally forced to go to the bargain pages!

Could this have anything to do with the "Yahoo Junk Mail filter" (bright Yellow) advert flashing up on the top of the General forum page asking you to subscribe?
