If you`ve got 200 notes I`d go for the Sherwood, as the Kenwood 5030 doesn`t do DTS, whereas the Sherwood does.

Eventually more discs will be released with the excellent DTS sound format on (so far just Gladiator and Chicken Run in the UK, but R1 discs often have a choice).

Best to future format, and go for an amp with DTS if you`re looking to spend £200, matey !!

`Fraid I`m a bit of a Yamaha snob, so I will tend to look down my nose at the Sherwood ! This isn`t intentional, just feeling good about my A5 !

The only reviews (and I am open to correction) mention the words `rough` and `ready`, and `no good as an hi-fi amp`.

Mick - suggest you stick `Sherwood` in the Reviewer Search facility (see top of the page) and read the threads thoroughly - most people are happy with it.

I can`t possibly be subjective about it, but I will say that £200 is good money to spend on a budget home cinema !

I have a previous generation 5010 with 50W/channel. It seems OK in all respects except tuner performance. I can`t get a strong enough signal for it. To get it to perform correctly, I will have to get a roof mounted aerial :-(

If you go to the kenwood site you will notice that the 7030 has onboard DTS which suggests that the 5030 doesn`t do DTS.

With your DVD, you would have been OK with the 5010 which has 6 channel audio inputs.

If your DVD hasn`t got digital out, then you may find yourself a technology generation out.

If I was buying again I would go for digital inputs/outputs on amp and dvd.

I`m in the market for a £200 amp also. In my searching I,ve seen the Denon 1601 advertised for £239, does everything you want for home cinema, crackingly well made, and sounds good in straight music stereo.
"What hifi" have got a group test this month with home cinema gear, well worth a look.

The 5030 has 6 channel input, which means if your dvd has a 6 channel audio output then the 5030 would give you dts out.

If you have £200 I would go for the Kenwood 7030,
then save up for some speakers.

Kahless

PS This is just what I am going to do.
