Things that are annoying in supermarkets

Fitz (Elite) posted this on Monday, 1st September 2003, 15:57

Having to actually go is a big chore, but the things that pee me off once there are:

Groups of people standing chatting in the aisles and getting in everyone`s way.

Kids racing about unsupervised.

Going to the 10 items or less check out and finding that someone in front of you has got considerably more than 10 items.

Those special parking bays for mothers and toddlers. Fine if they are for kids in pushchairs, but if the kids can walk then a short walk will do them no harm.

Perfectly fit people parking in the disabled bays.

Dodgy trolleys.

And the worst in my opinion:

People leaving the toilets without washing their hands. Not very nice if they then handle loose fruit or veg etc.

Those are my gripes for the week. Anybody got any more ?

Sullen shop assistants, badly labled "special offers" and of course NEW AND IMPROVED. I liked it the old way or I wouldn`t have bought it. >:(

Got to disagree with the toddler spaces, they are a godsend and i`m sure when you`ve got a car with children in it parked beside you, a door slammed into yours wouldn`t go down very well, having to clip kids into carseats isn`t easy when you`ve got about a foot to work in.

Take your point wkdandyly, but still can get a door bashed into my vehicle from people without kids. Which raises the question. Why don`t the supermarkets make all spaces just that little bit wider ? If you`ve used supermarkets in the US, you`ll know what I mean. Still I suppose that would mean less cars, therefore less shoppers, meaning less profit. King Profit rules again !

Surprised no-one`s mentioned my biggest bugbear - the old

"new checkout opens next to the one you`re queuing at but rather than doing the decent thing and letting people in front of you in the queue go first, people at the back of the queue get first dibs on the new checkout, and crucially, the checkout operator does nothing about it"

routine >:(

Being handed your change, card and receipt (and possibly cashback money) in one inconvenient lump, which you then need to separate out into your different wallet sections.

People who seem surprised that they need to have money / cards ready to pay for their stuff and then find that everything they need it at the bottom of their bag, which they`ve just stuffed full of the stuff they`ve `bought`

One more - stupid old codgers who insist on giving the cashier the exact change down to the penny. At lunch time. When there are office workers wanting a sandwich. And it`s hot too. And the old codger smells of wee...
