I don`t even get a local rag, and I wish I could stop the free papers dropping on the mat. I can`t remember offhand when I gave up on the daily press, but I decided the money would be better spent on an internet connection, so it`s at least seven years ago. I got fed up of editorial masquerading as reporting. One of the Neo-Nazi papers - all right, the Express - did an "interview" with Arthur Scargill on the front page that was completely fabricated, and I`d been fed up with the incredible inaccuracies in so much of their reporting. As for best and worst, I used to think the Mirror was best until Cap`n Bob ruined it, and the worst has to be the NotW.

I have an open mind - everything goes in one ear and out the other.

Best - The Sport. ( Much more, down to earth )

Worst - The Telegraph ( too big for me )

I think it`s safe to say that I do not consider myself as an intellectual. ;)

When I find a newspaper which concentrates on reporting facts rather than pushing its own warped political agenda, or simply boosting its own circulation, I`ll happily read it. I`m not going to hold my breath, though.

The Daily Mail is probably the worst of a bad bunch. Its blinkered hypocrisy can, at times, be absolutely staggering.

My news-provider of choice is the BBC News website. Not perfect admittedly, and their sports coverage can verge depressingly into tabloid territory, but it`s usually pretty balanced and a lot faster than a printed paper.

I stopped buying newspapers, except on the odd occasion, about 6 years ago. Last week I bought the Daily Mail to get the free copy of the French Lieutenant`s Woman on DVD, and felt dirty doing so.

None of the papers are any good - they all put their own spin on stories in order to influence their readership, particularly in their political leanings. News TV & text services are generally much more neutral and gives a better balance.

The Sun, being the newspaper with the highest readership, obviously has the most influence. Strangely, whoever they support at an election always seems to get into power.

Whenever I speak to my brother and my sister-in-law, who are avid readers of the Sun and News of the World, about political matters, it is amazing how often they sound like they are quoting straight from these papers in all their views.

The press in this country needs regulation to prevent them from taking a politically biased viewpoint, but which newspaper would support a party that would include that as a policy?

Ah! Didn`t know there was a tabloid Independent. I prefer the tabloid format, as easier to read and easier to recycle :) I currently have the Express (like the cryptic crossword). It`s also anti Daily Mail which has to be worst along with The Sun (Rupert Murdoch and all that).

The best has to be The Times, especially for it`s sporting coverage.

The worst, without question, The Daily Mail.
