Speaker Stands..................ARGHH!!!!

Blazingmonga (Elite) posted this on Monday, 30th April 2001, 21:42

I just got my Videologic Digitheatre last week but I really need speaker stands if I am to get the speakers in the right places. I have looked at the Richer Sounds catalogue but was shocked to see that it would cost me £80 minimum to get 4, 70cm high stands. That is well out of my reach and seems a bit mad for a stick of metal with some plates on the ends.

Is there any other stands that can be recommended? What about making my own?

Aye.

sure you could buy speaker stand cheaply in B&Q, Also have you thought about using wall bracket

Do B&Q do stands then? How much?

I dont want to have my Digitheatre fixed in one place so wall stands are not an option right now.

Thanks though.

Blazin` - Argos do Ross speaker stands at £20 a pair.

I have two pairs, and they do the job just fine `n` dandy. Don`t let hi-fi purists tell you otherwise.

They are fully adjustable and are available in black or, erm....black.

Hope this helps.

Well thats a possibilty, but its still going to be £40, which I am not totally wanting to part with. Thanks though, I might get them.

I could commision my Dad to weld some, using metal stolen from Torness power station. That would cost nowt.

Hmm I dont know.

Get atacama Nexus 6 for 60cm for 5 for 50cm, £50 a pair, much better constructed and looks miles better than anything else for the money. It comes in Black, Silver or a strange Red colour.

You can fill it with sand to make more stable (trust me it`s stable already, with 4 spikes at the bottom) and it also isolate the speakers better to give more clarity and better bass to the speakers.

I totally disagree with clayt`s comment on Ross speakers stands will work, you can put your speakers on them but they don`t offer the best isolation. A block of cheese works better!

And make sure you put some blue tack underneath the speakers beofre you put it on the stands. IT`s help it to stay in place.

Yep, I got those Argos ones, £40 for 2 pairs. I don`t think you`ll get cheaper than that unless you make your own.

What about strategically placed furniture? Or will your overturned crate and stuffed mattress not support the weight? :D

Ikea do some reasonable stands - either a crossed piece of metal which the speaker sits in, or a new range of steel poles sat in concrete.

Check out their catalogue

Blimey, Dan

Don`t bother IKEA - just go to the nearest building site!
(Steel poles sat in concrete, indeed - don`t you mean scaffolding?:-) )

Seriously though, the VL speakers fit in the palm of your hand. Aren`t freestanding speakers going to look like giant knitting needles? The last time I tried stands I was forever knocking the blessed things over. Much prefer the VL brackets that fix to the wall. I know positioning is a so-&-so but the instructions in the DTS pack are very good and drilling really bugs the neighbours....:-)

Just wait....I`ve just got Saving Private Ryan DTS............
