a bit OT but *my credit card has been compromised* !!!!!!!!!
Well here I am Mr. "The internet system of secure payment is fine" idiot.
I have always embraced new technology and have purchased quite a few items over the net, confident in the secure servers used.Well that confidence has been well and truly shaken.
Over this Bank Holiday I had an email from my online bank saying that my monthly statement was ready, having not used the credit card for some 5 weeks (good huh) I have not checked the account. So when I logged on to see how much I had to pay this month,to my horror £500 had been spent in 4 yes FOUR days and whats more has sent me £200 in the red with my card.
I bank with Cahoot so I will let you know how this progresses and wether they stick to there gaurantee against internet misuse.
Fed up...really fed....p****d off.

hey, were in all in real life you coulda been mugged and had your wallet stolen
all considered it`s not that bad.
and should be easy to prove that you didn`t make the transactions so you`ll get your money back if they`re even a half-way decent bank

Go to your local Police Station also.
It`s been my experience that Banks would rather cover up this kind of thing. While you leave it purely in their hands there will always be some doubt as to your honesty.
GET THE PIGS INVOLVED, FRAUD IS THEIR BUSINESS.

good thought except that the police can`t really be bothered with concrete things never mind www or internet problems.

Just to put another side to the argument, this doesn`t necessarily relate to using technology or an Internet bank.
I had a surprise addition to my Natwest Goldcard Mastercard a couple of months ago - £2350 at a Holiday Inn at Putney Bridge - something I`m sure I would have remembered had I been in the area, or actually *spent* the money !!
After a couple of calls to the fraud division of Natwest and signing a declaration, everything was sorted out and the credit has been cleared. However, the final conclusion was that the was a "miskeying" at the Holiday Inn, and they managed to `hit` my details - nothing to do with the Internet, or my ordering online or anything like that.
The moral - it`s probably just as easy for you to run up bills or suffer fraud using your card in a shop, as it is on the Internet... Just like your Momma told you, you need to check your statements carefully ;-)

I agree with checking the statements regularly,it could have been worse if it was the beginning of the month I would not have checked til I got my statement as like i said previously i have not used the card since march 2oth or so.
I know it can happen away from the net, but usually the card is stolen and so is missing and you notice it gone. But the card in this instance was as always in my wallet.
All this happened in 4 days over the bank holiday.

Hey Dan - you obviously don`t remember the Moderators` last night out in Putney then - I certainly do, mate, and I still maintain to this day that doing that with a pineapple is just not possible...
Clayts,
Grateful for Dan`s Wallet,
Up a lamppost in Putney (still...)

Only one thing to say really:-
BASTARDS!!!!!
I hate it when someone gets turned into a victim thru no fault of their own.
Can only echo the sentiments here; get the BIG fuzz involved i.e. the computer crimes unit @ Scotland Yard. They can`t really ignore you, can they?
I use a single CCard for all internet transactions. I asked for a limited credit limit of £200. It`s with a company that has secure web access for customers, so I can check it almost hourly if I wanted to. This means I don`t need to wait 30 days to find out if I`ve been ripped off (or internet companies have done naughties and debited the card `early`). I use another card for normal (over the counter) use.
It also means I can prove a dodgy non-internet transaction wasn`t mine `cos I can tell the CC company I only use it online(and the statements will bear this out).
I hope all it all works out okay for those guys who`ve been ripped off. You have my sympathies.
