Hey. I am in my 2nd year of Uni and need to have a moan

My friends think I am a racist for saying this but I strongly disagree.

My lecturers are mostly foreign and can't speak the English language properly. How the hell am I meant to learn the subject when I can't even understand the language that is coming out of there mouths????

I just wanted to know - am I a racist in thinking this? Or do I have a right, after paying 1150 pound per year, to sit in a lecture room where they can speak my countries language? I would have thought when employing a lecturer - their communication skills would have been one of the major factors in employing them. IT'S CRAZY!!!!!!

Please help me end this disagreement with my mates and answer for me

Nope. It`s the same as when a doctor of foreign origin explains to you the complicated surgery you`re just about to go through, and you can`t understand aword he`s saying (happened to my sister twice)

I have exactly the same problem at University.

On the other hand.. I`m at a University where it seems approximately 80% of the students are from china / malaysia / etc.. and I know only one that speaks fluent English..

How can their work by marked as equally as mine?.. I`ll tell you how.. it`s al about money... overseas students pay huge fees to the University.. and they will bend over backwards..even so much as to ensure they receive good marks.. to encourage more to apply..

Yup, I can`t get into an art college (which is actually a University) because they only have 14 places on the course, and they flat out told me at least 9 of those places go to foreign students every year >:(

It makes a farce of the term "equal opportunities". It`s nothing to do with race, just money. It`s quite sickening that they take advantage of that, but if the students have the money then I guess it`s their choice (or their parents).

There is nothing racist about having a moan about the way a lecturer speaks - you would have as much right to moan if it was an English lecturer who spoke so quietly he was inaudible or rushed through a lecture at a million miles a minute; the fact that the lecturer comes from abroad should not enter into the debate.

As for Haggis` point, when I did my MA, most of the students were from overseas and many of them had no politics background (it was an international studies course!) and some struggled to complete a full sentence in English; I have no idea how they wrote a 15,000 word dissertation.
