Page 1 of Billy Piper Jumps Ship from Doctor Who

According to today's Sun newspaper Billy Piper is quitting Dr Who during the second series, maybe after only 3 or so episodes. Insiders are saying Mickey, Roses on/off boyfriend could become the Dr`s new companion. Its though Billy has been head hunted by US tv/film executives.


I gonna kill that firefox spellchecker, and enjoy doing it.

Let`s hope they get rid of that godawful Captain Jack `Ace Rimmer` Harkness before then. I don`t think I could stand him and Mickey.

I don`t think I shall be watching the "second" new series of Doctor Who. I cannot stand second-rate actor David Tennant.

He usually gets a new companion just before or just after a regeneration. Changing the entire regular cast within just a few episodes can be a risky business, though. I don`t think the original series ever truly recovered from the initial reaction to the Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant era.

Most companions stay on for quite a while, the exceptions being Ben & Polly (Hartnell\Troughton - New producer didnt like the characters allegedly & wrote them out but not without them notching up a good number of stories).

Sarah-Jane was in the last season of Jon Pertwee & 3 seasons of Baker the 1st.
Nyssa\Tegan were in the last stories of Baker the 1st, with Nyssa leaving in year 2 of Peter Davison & Tegan leaving 2 stories short of the end of his run.

Peri picked up from Tegan & lasted until halfway through Baker the 2nd, second series.

The exceptions to all this is poor Adric (ROFL) who was blown up\crashed into the Earth, five stories into Peter Davison & Mel (HOORAY) at the end of McCoy`s first season.

Only 3 Doctors have been companionless at the start of their tenure, those being Pertwee, McGann & assumed finished that way as he leads directly into Eccles.

I don`t think the series ever recovered from Baker the 2nd`s costume or the truelly appalling scripts (coupled with various squabbles behind the scenes with the script editor) that came in about the same time. Baker himself was a perfectly competent Doctor & Peri had her good points too.

Almost forgot Billie Piper, far better than I ever dreamed she could be. Whoever follows her will one have one hell of a tough act to follow, but given the quality of casting so far in the series (possible exception being Mickey) should be more than up to the job.



I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

I actually don`t think this is too big a deal - companions are always coming and going (I mean there was a time when you couldn`t imagine Doctor Who without Sarah Jane..!). It`s just another part of the Doctor Who experience.

I was just thinking - Piper will be the first companion to "out-last" the Doctor! (eg - she`s been with the 9th Doctor since the beginning - and she`ll carry on with the 10th once CE has regenerated). Weird...

IMHO it would be far more entertaining and interesting if the thread was

"Billy Piper Jumps Doctor Who"
