FA: Cowboy and other swear filter avoidance offenders

RJS (undefined) posted this on Wednesday, 7th September 2005, 11:45

Duhhhh! We have swear filters for a reason. Purposefully avoiding them by using digits or other non-alpha characters is just going to get your messages deleted.

Swear if you absolutely feel you have to, but let the filters do their job. Some people still find these words offensive.

Who swore....? Cowboy...? What did he say? (without the foul language obviously!)

Awww but thats the fun part. ;)

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

He said the "sh" word and put "1" where the "i" was.

At the point of being thick (I really don`t want you to answer that bit :) ), do you mean When the odd swear word slips from one and we insert a couple of * as in: Wh*re are you,
or do you mean when someone uses a certain P word, use similar numbers in shape of the letter, such as 5 for S.

Or would you prefer that we just let the Filter do the filter! if we get mad.

Ok, maybe I am being a bit thick about this, but I`m not trying to wind you up over it.

Cracking toast, Gromit!

... If found, please return this person to the insane asylum, as it would really annoy them if you do that

Well, in fairness, it was used in the heading and in capitals. Couldn`t miss it.
It was about here.

I never realised there was a swear filter here so I`ve always put stars in myself coz I know we`re not allowed to swear on here! Am I in trouble now?

Would I be better of swearing properly when I feel it is necessary and letting the machine deal with it or is starring out bits like th*s OK?

Sorry...don`t mean to be annoying, but the whole world has just got a lot more complicated!
