Page 1 of I`m Moving To Southampton!!

I've got a transfer from PC World to Dixon's in the West Quay Southampton!! :)

Firstly - Where the hell is it?? Tom Tom and Multimap can't find it??

Secondly - Can anyone who's knows the city tell me the good and not so good places to rent?? Bearing in mind it looks like I`m going to have to use public transport to get to work and I don't want to be travelling more than 30 mins each way to work? Unless someone knows where I could park near for free or cheaply?

Any other information about Southampton would be appreciated

Not quite sure whether you mean where is Southampton or where is the West Quay shopping centre!
Southampton is in the south of Hampshire - to the west of Portsmouth and to the East of the New Forest and with the Isle of Wight to the south - a 20minute fast-jet ferry ride away down Southampton Water and across the Solent.
West Quay Shopping Centre is the new(ish) shopping centre in the centre of town off the West Quay Rd. Have a look here on Multimap for it.

There`s a bit of info about living in the town here on the Leaders Estate Agents site. There are quite a few agents dealing with rented properties in Soton. I find doing a search on this site quite useful.

As for places to avoid it really depends what you like. There are some real rough areas - with drug dealers and prostitutes on the street corners. Avoid these. But I won`t offend any Sotonians on here by saying where they are (I`ve only been here for just under a year) - the estate agants can advise you on that.

That would be St Marys then, avoid that and Thornhill.

Shirley area is probably your best bet, nearly every single bus in Southampton goes down Shirley High Street into the city center, and it`s a nice enough place. Well, Shirley itself is, avoid Shirley Warren, Maybush, and Millbrook.

As for Dixons, you go in the entrance from the precinct, and it`s one of the 1st few shops on the right.

Hey nothing wrong with maybush dodgy areas are shirley warren, millbrook, lordshill, st marys,northam go for somewhere like ocean village or shirley or the avenue

I`ve got friends who live in Shirley, seems alright.

lots of the places already mentioned are ok but if you want to be able to walk to work try Hill Lane part of town. 2 of my friends have rent flats there in last 3 months both v nice and fab for parking when I need to pop into town! ;)

Is Shirley Warren that bad? Seen cheap 2 Bed place off Warren Avenue.
