Honeymoon in New York - any tips on getting bumped up to first class

Bullitt79 (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 14th December 2005, 21:55

Says it all in the title really.

Just got married and were off to New York for X-mas.

Was wondering if anyone knew any good ways of getting any freebies whilst on your honeymoon? I.e getting bumped up to 1st class on the plane or getting any extras from the hotel.

A friend has advised us to dress smart for the outbound flight and to mention when booking in that its our honeymoon.

Its been years since ive flyed outside of the EU, and cant really remember how it all works.

Failing that has anyone got any tips for Xmas in New york?

Other helpful tips heard elsewhere.

Ask for window seat next to the aisle.
When booking via a TA, request that the ticket be marked SFU on comments\special requests.
Be early at the check in desk & be polite & friendly to the staff.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

sorry may be a bit slow today, but what does TA and SFU mean?

And were both diabetic, was wondering if that may be of any help.

Really want to make it as special as possible for my partner shes had a hard time lately, but only just managed to scrape enough for the honeymoon.

Looking forward to Xmas in NY though, should be magical!

Best get the TA to do that.

Dont overdo the effort, mention its honeymoon (wedding cert helps), be smart & early.

Call as your own P.A - explain you have a VIP and partner on honeymoon - very important (make some nonsense up) and ask for an upgrade.

Who are you flying with? my sister works for B.A if that helps.

Sorry, no advice to give.
Just want to wish good luck to you both and hope you can get upgraded.

Cheers Batavia. Im not fussed if we dont get upgraded, it would just be an added bonus, and it doesnt hurt to try.

Were flying with Flybe/Continential. Got the package deal through Expedia.

Reckon we will turn up early and smartly dressed. With marrige cert in hand and hope for the best. Never tried it before (as its been along time) and like i said before its worth a try.

All of the above advice is sound, so good luck, try them all.. Be nice, look smart, don`t give anyone any hassle and smile. Its great to be upgraded, but whenever its happened to me its just been sheer luck, I normally dress like I expect to be marooned.
But either way, hope you have a great flightand time in the US of Goddam A.

And Congratulations...
