Consumer rights - Your opinion please
On Christmas day my JVC mini-DV camera packed up >:(
Now,I was resigned to paying for a repair, but a quick internet search revealed that it is such a common fault with the model that JVC actually issued a statement offering to repair the fault until October 2007.
Very honest and nice of them,I`m sure you`ll agree. :D
So I phoned and asked the procedure.
I have to write to them with a copy of the receipt (as proof of ownership, they said) and the serial number.
They will then send me back a repair voucher.
The costs of postage to and from the repair centre is my problem.
Fair enough.
However, the camera is over two years old (although I reckon it`s only had a maximum of 10 hours use) and we`ve moved house,so the receipt is nowhere to be found. :(
Surely this should not compromise my entitlement to a repair of a fault acknowledged on their website as commonplace ?
Whujareckon ??

I think you should be ok if you have any other evidence that points to you being the legal owner, such as original box or owners manual.

Long shot I know but credit card statements or bank statements? :/
RE: Consumer rights - Your opinion please
Surely they should have an idea how old it is from the serial number?.

Personally,I think it`s a bit unreasonable of them to expect you to have the receipt just to get it repaired.
Are you asked to prove ownership when you take your car for a warranty repair ?
No,the garage accepts you are the owner.
You`re not asked to show them your receipt or registration document ! :D
Let`s face it,in this day and age electronics can change ownership via the likes of ebay and I doubt many deals include the original receipt.
I`ve written to them saying I don`t have the receipt any more and `suggesting` it shouldn`t really matter.
Let`s see what they say. ;)

However, the camera is over two years old so it is an out of warranty repair? Slightly differant things. Ones in and one is out. Most manufacturers do not alow the transfer of warrantys so I am guessing that they want proof that you are the first owner. But if they are addmiting there is a fault then it does seem a bit mean.
Good luck.
All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
