New porta-DVD?

John Rudge (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 8th April 2000, 15:35

I`m intrigued by the Pioneer PDV-LC10 DVD player you`ve mentioned on the Region 2 news. If it is truly "display-less" does this mean that you have to carry your own 32" widescreen inflatable telly to watch it on? Otherwise what is the advantage of it being portable? Or is this another one of your classic typos such as the regionless players that don`t play DVDs from any region?!

We are striving to be The Guardian`s online DVD equivalent you know! :-)

It genuinly does have no display, so yes you do have to cart around your own portable inflatable telly. However, my personal preference is for an inflatable projector as I always prefer a bigger image.

I guess Pioneer think there is a market (although clearly it is small) for such a device. Who are we to argue. :-)

This isn`t the first screenless portable DVD player - i suppose it`s useful if you`re staying in hotels, friends` houses, etc.
